After the tour, Jongin scurried off to his class while Kyungsoo and his mother made their way back to the admissions office so they could finalize his transfer and academic schedule. Truthfully, Kyungsoo was still confused as to how he would find his around by himself, but how could he possibly pay attention to his surroundings when someone as attractive as Jongin was standing right in front of him? All he did was stare at his lips his and not just because it was the only way he could have any understanding of what he was saying.
Kyungsoo thought of how soft his lips must be; he thought that a kiss from him would be the thing that made his heart stop. But at some point, Kyungsoo had to shake his head and tell his brain to knock it off. After all, they were only on a first and last name basis; Kyungsoo thought that they barely could be considered acquaintances. But the thing that was worrying Kyungsoo the most right now was the fact that Jongin still didn't know that he was deaf. Would he even want to be acquaintances with him after he found out that he would never be able to have a regular conversation with him?
Most people that Kyungsoo had encountered in his life showed much respect to him and his disability, or at least they tried to. Even though they tried to be polite and treat him like any other person, Kyungsoo could see how awkward it was for them by the small shimmer of obligation in their eyes. They didn't want to seem shallow and close-minded, so they practically forced themselves to be nice to him, both adults and peers. But deep down, they didn't want to and Kyungsoo knew that. They didn't want to treat someone who was so different from themselves the same exact way as their hearing friends. They just wouldn't admit it. And Kyungsoo knew this, too.
The fact that it was hard for him to even find people to be friends with him almost guaranteed that no one would want to date him. It was hard enough being friends with a deaf person, so who would want to date one? Even if a person tried to see past his inability to hear, at some point they would feel the stress of his disability and leave him. That's why Kyungsoo never tried to find love or friendship.
His first day of classes the following day was like any other really. People would give him odd looks whenever he was sitting in class and Ryeowook was translating the teacher's words into sign language, but he never paid them any mind. If he had dealt with it thus far in his life, he could deal with it now.
Philosophy was his last class of the day and he was sitting at his desk setting up all of his materials, he could feel the eyes of his classmates burning into his skull. He took a moment to let his eyes flutter shut and take a deep breath, reminding himself he only had 50 more minutes of this to endure before he could escape.
His father always taught him to never see being deaf as a bad thing and tried to look at the positive side of it, but that got hard for him at times like these, when people looked at him like he was some kind of zoo animal. It was when people thought that just because he walked around with an interpreter that they could make snide remarks about him. It was times like this that made Kyungsoo feel like an outcast in the world. It was times like this that made him feel alone.
Ryeowook took him out of his head when he tapped his shoulder. He pointed over to his side with a slight grin, prompting Kyungsoo to look over and see that someone was now sitting next to him.
"Hi, I'm Baekhyun," the guy said as he held out his hand, prompting Kyungsoo to shake it. "You're new here, right?" Kyungsoo nodded his head. "Cool! I figured since I had never seen you around before. This school is pretty small." Kyungsoo smiled faintly and nodded his head. "So, I take it your deaf?" He said it so bluntly that Kyungsoo was slightly taken aback but managed another nod anyway. "But you read lips?" Another nod. "That's neat. Hey, listen, if anyone ever gives you a hard time, especially Jongdae, just let me know and I'll kick some ass. Most of these kids have never been more than 10 miles out of this town, so they like to use that as an excuse to be ignorant assholes. Kyungsoo laughed and nodded again.
