Jongin's mother pested the couple for the duration of their stay at the house and Jongin felt like he was on the verge of going insane himself. She was still considerably young, but the fact that it was nearly impossible to have a conversation with her without being asked the same question twenty times made her seem much older. Kyungsoo found the way that Jongin's family seemed so laid back to be entertaining but moreover, refreshing. It reminded him of his childhood, whenever he would observe the conversations Jongin's family would have with each other, laughing whenever someone said something laugh-worthy. Seeing how they acted like best friends rather than a family took Kyungsoo back to the times he would spend with his dad, those times that they would spend together, signing to each other for hours on end. For the longest time, Kyungsoo wasn't able to recall those memories without becoming somber, but by spending time with Jongin and his family, he was finally able to smile when at the thought of his dad.
No one but him knew it, but Jongin's words from that night still played over in his mind like a broken record stuck on replay. He just couldn't seem to get over the fact that Jongin said that he was in love with him no matter how hard he tried to lead his mind astray. Only two months had passed since they officially became a couple and that was a short time, at least to Kyungsoo it was. How could Jongin fall in love with him over a time period of eight weeks? He was more than thrilled that someone he cared so deeply about loved him, but he knew that sooner or later Jongin would expect a response. And although he was a patient man, Kyungsoo didn't know how long Jongin would wait for that response. But more importantly, he didn't know how long it would take him to give Jongin the response he wanted.
"So, how are your parents doing?" Chanyeol asked Jongin a couple of days after his return, the two friends washing up from a day's work at the restaurant. "Is your mom still losing her mind?"
"Bro, you have no idea," Jongin said, glancing at Chanyeol, who was over at the sink as Jongin wiped off the table. "Trying to talk to her anymore is like driving in circles, totally pointless."
He laughed out loud in response. "What about your dad? How is he?" he asked.
"He's as lazy as he usually is, so good," Jongin replied, pulling a second laugh out of Chanyeol's mouth. "How are you, hyung? I saw Baekhyun at school earlier today. Did you get the chance to talk to him yet?"
"Yeah, I did actually," Chanyeol replied as he glanced at the standing Jongin again, a faint corner smile on his lips.
"Oh, oh, is that a smile I see?" Jongin said as he pointed his finger at the taller male. "That means that either you got laid or something good happened or both." Chanyeol cackled again, this time throwing his head back as the laughs flew out of his mouth.
"Not both yet," he said, "but something good did happen."
"Are you just going to leave me hanging or what?" said Jongin as he let out an airy chuckle and held his arms in the air. "Tell me, tell me."
"Well," Chanyeol said with a sigh, taking a break from the dishes to talk to Jongin. "We aren't officially back together yet, but we did talk things out and we both want to give us a try again."
"That's awesome!" Jongin said as he swung the white rag over his shoulder and starting to head back into the kitchen. "So, do you think you'll get back together soon?"
"I'm hoping," Chanyeol replied. "But now that I let him go once, I don't want to mess this up. I was lucky to be given a second chance, so I'm counting my blessings and taking my time."
"Aw, I'm so proud of you," Jongin said, lightly tapping Chanyeol's fabric-covered bicep. "Learning the value of love. It's about time."
"I know, right?" Chanyeol said, getting a chuckle from the younger. "Speaking of love, how are things with you and Kyungsoo? Did you get in his pants yet?"
