The weekend of the dance competition approached quickly and between fitting in the last practices and work, Jongin's schedule was filled. Some nights, he didn't get back home until past eleven, but not once did he open the door and not find Kyungsoo waiting for him, wearing one of his big shirts that barely came to down to his knees. It had to be one of his new favorite sights, Jongin thought.
Kyungsoo had been spending a lot of time at Jongin's apartment lately, so much that it would seem to any other person that the two were living together. Truthfully, Jongin was tossing around the idea of asking Kyungsoo to move in with him, seeing as how they both still had a couple years left of school. But he was quick to dispose of that idea, at least for the time being. They hadn't even had sex yet and that in itself was a big step. Jongin wanted to make sure that he didn't rush things with him.
He did, however, have a key made for him just in time for the anniversary of their third month together. Giving him a key, Jongin thought, was the healthy medium between them living separately and them living together. It was no special key, just the ordinary shining silver color, but Jongin knew that as long as Kyungsoo excepted his gift, that key would no longer be just a mere carved piece of metal, but a symbol of their love that they could hold onto and cherish forever. Once the local locksmith was done making the key, he gave it to Jongin and Jongin thanked him before going over to the local gift shop to purchase a small box to place the key until their date that evening. A content and hopeful sigh fell off of Jongin's lips once the key was securely placed in the box, a red ribbon keeping the square lid pressed to the box. He rubbed his thumbs against it and smiled faintly, praying to himself that Kyungsoo would accept his gift.
A short twenty minutes remained before Kyungsoo was supposed to make his way over to Jongin's apartment for their anniversary date and he was practically shaking in excitement. Jongin told him not to buy him a present because he was more of a gift than he could ever ask for, but Kyungsoo couldn't show up empty-handed. So he did end getting his boyfriend a gift, but while still obeying the no buying rule. Jongin's days were continuously busy and Kyungsoo was aware of this, so he decided that making him a coffee mug would be the perfect gift for him and his love of coffee. Once he was finally finished getting dressed, Kyungsoo grabbed the gift bag that had tissue paper in it to cover the mug and scampered down the stairs.
I'll be back in a few hours, hyung, Kyungsoo told Ryeowook, who was waiting by the door as he watched Kyungsoo put his sneakers on. I'll text you when I'm on my way.
"Okay, just be careful, Soo," Ryeowook replied, giving him a small smile that had a hint of concern in it. "Three months isn't that long and I want you to know that you don't have to do anything you aren't ready for." Kyungsoo laughed a little and hugged Ryeowook gratefully.
I know, he said after the hug was broken. I'm a big boy now. I can take care of myself. Ryeowook couldn't help but chortle at that, making Kyungsoo smile brightly before bending down to pick the bag off the ground. He sent Kyungsoo off with one last wave and watched him walk in the direction of Jongin's apartment, noticing the extra cheer in his step. He smiled faintly and went back inside, plopping on the couch and rubbing his hands against his face.
He thought about how happy it made him to see Kyungsoo comfortable and happy and growing into himself. The Kyungsoo he knew before was reserved and was barely able to make friends that accepted him and his inability to hear. When they first arrived in the small town, Ryeowook hoped that experiencing more of the vast world would help Kyungsoo come out of his shell. He just never expected it to be because he fell in love. Although he was no psychic, Ryeowook could tell that Jongin would occupy a special place in Kyungsoo's life far into the future and that made him happy.
