Nothing but the sound of Kyungsoo's quiet cries filled the limousine as it drove in the one direction Kyungsoo didn't want to be going. His head was on Ryeowook's shoulder as salty tear after salty tear poured from his eyes and at that moment for the first time in his life, he was glad that he couldn't hear. If he could hear himself crying, he thought, it would only confirm that all the pain he was feeling in his heart was real; it would only certify to him that he was no longer close to Jongin, the one person whose touch he needed more than anything. But more so than that, it would verify that it was his fault for not fighting for him.
Ryeowook wished that he could console Kyungsoo better by doing something other than hold him, but he knew there wasn't much that he could do. He couldn't put the blame on Jongin and tell him that he didn't deserve to be with someone as great as Kyungsoo because Ryeowook knew that the only person to blame was Kyungsoo's mother. But she would never admit to her wrongdoings, especially since she had successfully manipulated her son into thinking that leaving his first love was a good idea. Now, Ryeowook realized, it was going to take time and lots of convincing in order to get Kyungsoo back on his feet and back into the arms of Jongin. And he decided that he was going to be the person to lift him up even if it meant putting his job on the line.
By the time the car finally pulled up in front of the Do's house, Kyungsoo had finally put a cork in his eyes to keep them from letting out any more tears. The driver put the long, black vehicle in park and turned it off before getting out to retrieve Kyungsoo's belongings from the trunk. Ryeowook looked down at Kyungsoo, whose head was still resting against his shoulder, and gently rubbed his arm to tell him to sit up. Kyungsoo glanced up at him before quickly observing his surroundings and sitting up, rubbing his hands over his tired and tear-stained face.
"Are you okay?" Ryeowook asked him. Kyungsoo didn't even look at him when he shook his head. The interpreter sighed heavily, feeling pity toward the glum younger. "Come on," he said, allowing another quick say to escape through his parted lips as he signed. He reached for the door handle and pulled until the door opened, letting Kyungsoo step out before he did.
"Doesn't it feel better to be home, honey?" Kyungsoo's mother said once she got out of the car, an airy and satisfied gust of air leaving her mouth. Kyungsoo just looked at her pathetically for a moment before dragging his feet inside the house, Ryeowook following behind him without sparing her even the smallest glance. He walked Kyungsoo up to his bedroom and closed the door once they were both in so that the chance of his mother coming in was reduced.
Do you think he hates me? Kyungsoo asked after he plopped on his bed, connecting eyes with the elder male after signing.
"No, of course not, Soo," Ryeowook said as he sat next to him. "If he did, he would be stupid."
But he said that it's good that I left, hyung, signed Kyungsoo, tears forming in his eyes again. That means either he wanted me to leave or that he hates me for hurting him.
"Well, everyone gets mad at someone who hurts them," he said. "But that doesn't necessarily mean that he hates you. He loves you and if I know him like I think I do, it's going to take more than a controlling mother to make him stop." Kyungsoo nodded slowly even though he wasn't convinced by his hyung's words.
I just thought that all of this would be easier, you know, Kyungsoo said after letting out a sniffle. When I decided to leave I told myself that it was for him and no one else. I told myself that I would be fine without him since we couldn't possibly last forever. But when he told me to go ahead and leave even though I knew he wanted me to stay, I started to think that I should have thought about it more carefully.
"What do you think now?" Ryeowook asked.
Kyungsoo kept his head lowered before locking eyes with Ryeowook and saying, I think I made the wrong choice.
***************
Back in town, Jongin was currently cleaning up from making himself dinner. His lips had stayed glued together ever since the moment he walked back from Kyungsoo's place and his eyebrows were slightly creased. After washing off the plate, he rinsed it off and placed it in the dish drain in front of the coffee cup that he usually gave to Kyungsoo whenever he spent the night. He stared at the pale blue mug with sorrow in his eyes and in his heart.
Although he meant what he said, Jongin still couldn't seem to fathom that Kyungsoo had walked out of his life in the blink of an eye. If only he would have known before that he was thinking of leaving, he could have done something to change his mind. But once he saw the boxes being put in the car, he knew it was beyond too late to do that. What he also couldn't understand was why Kyungsoo would believe whatever his mother told him, especially considering all those times Kyungsoo told him how controlling she was. If she was half as bad as Kyungsoo made her out to be, Jongin wanted to know why he still had so much trust instilled in her and so little instilled in himself and in Jongin.
A loud knock shook Jongin's front door, making the young male snap out of his trance and turn the water off before walking over to the door. He twisted the door open, leaving a trace of water on the metal doorknob.
"Hey, Jongin!" Baekhyun greeted him cheerfully, waving at him rapidly before coming inside. "Chanyeol and I were just on our way to a movie and we thought it would be nice if you and Soo came along. Where is he?" Jongin sighed in melancholy and shut the door; it hadn't even been a full day and the mere mention of his name made him feel like a bullet was going through his heart.
"He's not here," Jongin said in an emotionally drained voice, making his way back into the kitchen. "He left town this morning."
"What?!" Baekhyun shouted in absolute shock. "Why the hell did he leave town? Did you guys have a fight?"
"Apparently, all of a sudden he felt the need to let me go so that I could be happy with a 'normal person,'" Jongin said, another sigh falling off his lips as soon as his voice started. "But that's code word for my mother manipulated me into thinking that leaving was a good thing."
"Well, did you at least try to stop him?" Chanyeol asked.
"What would have been the point?" said Jongin, turning around as his hands lifted off the counter for a few seconds. "That woman has got him so brainwashed that nothing I could have said would have changed his mind." Baekhyun sighed as he looked up at Chanyeol, whose eyebrows were furrowed as much as his boyfriend's. And as they stood in silence, not sure of what to say, the same question weighed on all of their minds: why?
A/N
I know you guys are already pissed at me, but I promise there will only be 3 or 4 more chapters of angst before things start to look up, which might take a bit longer than it seems because I start school on Monday, but I will do my best to speed past this angst.
Please leave a vote and a comment if you liked this and please feel free to yell and curse me as well. I will be back with an update for this on Friday! <3
