You Hear A Siren...

You hear a siren. What do you think? What do you do?

When I hear a siren, I think of who might be in danger. I not only think of the victims, but also the first responders. If the victim is in danger, don't you think the rescuer will be in danger too?

What do you do when you hear a siren? Do you move to the side of the road? Many people don't, but you should. If so, great. You already know you are doing the right thing.

If not, think about this. The police car, firetruck or ambulance could be going to help anyone. When I say anyone, I mean anyone. It could be a neighbor. It could be a friend. It could be a relative. For all you know it might be someone who you know and deeply care for. Mom or dad? Sister or brother? Son or daughter? Like I said it could be anyone.

You find out later that a car held the police, firetruck or ambulance up. Wouldn't you be mad? You would feel guilty for the rest of your life if you found out that car was you.

Put yourself in the victim's place. You are in pain. You are scared for your life, or for a loved one's. You are truly desperate. You need help and you need it now.

The 911 dispatcher is trying to keep you calm and advise you what to do until help arrives, as you wonder why help hasn't come yet.

Seconds count. Don't be that person who holds the first responders back from saving a life. Pull over.
