Dispatchers are one of cops' biggest supporters in many different ways. Not only citizens who support them but they're also a big part of the first responder world. The people, who respond to emergencies, such as police, fire, EMS certainly could not function without the hard work of emergency dispatchers. In a sense, they really are the first first responders. After each emergency call they answer and have to listen to a situation across town as if they're right there but can only give the caller instructions and calm them down as help is on the way. Many breathe a sigh of relief and sometimes even clap or cheer from the consoles, when the bad guy is finally in custody or a little child was saved from the jaws of danger. 911 operators are the people behind the scenes answering 9-1-1 calls that most of us couldn't imagine are happening the next block over. They rarely get recognized for what they do and often don't get to hear the outcome of some calls, but yet keep picking up that telephone to answer the next call no matter what happened before. That's who they are... The thin gold line.
