A/N: This was a school project and I thought I would post it to Wattpad.
A lifetime of experiences he had seen continually haunted him.
Bad men terrorized the city he loved.
Cops, not just coworkers but his brothers and sisters, stood by his side.
Dangerous men, ready to do anything to escape, he confronted.
Easily, he could have walked away from everything.
From quitting his first day at the difficult police academy to leaving the department now, he knew what he had to do.
Going into danger for strangers was now part of the everyday job.
Heading to the call, red and blue lights flashed in the night.
Ignorant sheep he would lay his life down for.
Just so the innocent could live safely and peaceably.
Kicked the door down and entered the house.
Little children's terrified eyes looked to him for comfort.
"Man, what have these children been through?" he questioned, anger infuriating him as he thought of his own sweet little girl.
Nasty bruises covered them, forcing him to cringe.
Officers, just like him face these challenges every day.
Pray for them, as they rush past with sirens blaring rather than cursing them.
Quick arrival is what you hope for.
Rescuing lives day in and day out often takes it's toll on them.
Safety might be what you take for granted everyday, while they risk their lives for you.
Thank them today!
Understanding what they trudge through twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred-sixty-five days a year is the first step to respecting them.
Very appreciative they'll be.
Walking the beat is what they do to protect the otherwise unprotected.
"X" marks the spot of calls that are seared in their minds.
You never know the troubles that haunt them.
Zzzz... He'll at least get a little more rest, knowing a few of the ones he risks his life for appreciate him.
