Traffic stops. They are one of the biggest dangers for police officers, believe it or not.
Imagine you are an officer, who just pulled someone over for speeding, running a red light, etc. It's a "routine" traffic stop. Right? Well, that's what they call it, but nothing is really "routine". It's unpredictable. Anything can happen.
You don't know anything about this person. For all you know, it could be a bank robber with a gun, a embarrassed citizen who got caught speeding, or the President of the United States. Probably not the last one, but my point is it could be anyone with any background.
You don't know if the driver or a passenger has a hidden gun ready to fire. As an officer you need to be ready to write a simple traffic citation or to battle an unexpected gun fight. Not only that, but someone could unintentionally or intentionally hit you with their car. It's happened before.
So many unpredictables.
