Smoke heroes.
They crawl around on weak boards and in zero visibility.
They may be hozing down the fiery building in the dead of winter.
They crawl around on in flaming furnaces in the middle of July.
They may get the call at any time of the day or night.
They may be have the flu, but they still run into that burning building.
They may not have eaten all day or slept for days, due to the overload of calls coming in.
They save more than homes. They save hearts, memories, dreams, and lives.
They do it for the proud and stuck-up people, who don't know what tragedies go on everyday.
They search for the little scared, hopeless child hiding under the bed or in the closet.
They do it for lives and property.
They run in while everyone else is running out.
They lay aside their own safety to help others.
They do it with low pay, and without fame.
They do all this, knowing they may not ever see their family again.
Who are they? They're firefighters. They're smoke heroes.
