Chapter 20 (ALREADY! WOW!):

ALEX

I stared at the man sat opposite me, head bowed. He was so silent, seated away from me, in another corner. Hidden in the shadows.

I swallowed, unsure of what to do. Should I talk to him? Was he dangerous? Why was he here? Was he kidnapped too? Who WAS he?

So many questions buzzed around my mind. I observed him, taking in his crumpled clothes. A red pair of tight jeans and a blue and red stripy shirt. His hair was in a quiff that had flattened slightly. I couldn't tell what the colour was, because he was in the dark. It was definitely a shade of brown, though.

"Did your mother ever tell you it's rude to stare?" He joked, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

I was too stunned to respond at first. And when I did, the response came out as a stutter. "Oh, y-yeah... Sorry."

"It's okay." He raised his head to look at me. His eyes were a bright blue, framed with long eyelashes. "My name's Louis."

I chewed on my bottom lip, unsure of what to say. I didn't know if I could trust him, and so far everyone who's hurt me seems to know my name, everything.

"I don't know if I can tell you my name. No offence."

"None taken. You can trust me, you know."

"No, I don't know."

He chuckled, sitting straighter. "Ali?" He guessed. "Or is that a nickname?"

"What? H-how did you know?"

"I heard your boyfriend back there saying goodbye. 'Oh, baby girl, I love you so much!'." He mocked, laughing.

I couldn't help but laugh along with him. "Shut up," I joked, "Ali's a nickname. My real name's Alex."

"So you trust me now?"

"No, I just don't have anything to lose. Not right now anyway."

"Oh. Me neither, I guess."

"Why are you here?" I asked, genuinely curious.

"My family had some unpaid debts," he muttered bitterly, "they decided taking me would be enough to get their money."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

He shrugged. "I can look after myself. I don't want them to worry about me," he frowned to slightly, "I want them to know I'm okay."

"Of course they're going to worry, they're your family. They'll do anything to get the money they need for you. Just wait and see."

He smiled. "Thanks."

"No problem."

"How old are you?"

I paused at the random change of topic. "Nineteen. You?"

"Twenty-two."

"Oh."

"I bet you can tell by my guns." He grinned, kissing his biceps. They were impressive, I had to admit.

"Nah, I don't think so."

"Don't be cheeky."

"Sorry."

He just grinned at me. I could tell already that we'd be friends. I'm getting along with him instantly. It's nice to have someone you just click with. Harry was one of those people.

I flinched, feeling a pang as Harry's name enter my head.

"Do you think we're going to the same place? Like, will we be together?"
