Chapter 5

*ADALYNN STARR*

"What?" I ask her. Avery's face is pale white and her mouth is hanging open.

"Oh my God." She repeats.

"What?" I repeat.

"Remember when I got mad at you when you turned the music up all the way to the maximum the other day? I left the house, and when I went to my calming tree, I saw this guy that I had met another day, and his name was Joshua." She scans my face for any emotion.

"Oh my God."

"I know."

"Hawkes?"

"Right on."

*JOSHUA HAWKES*

I walk over to Jacob's room. "Hi Jacob." I say as I reach him.

"Hey bro." Jacob greets me back.

"Are you daydreaming about a girl?" I raise an eyebrow.

"No." He replies almost too quickly.

"Tell me what happened - everything." I say, knowing that something is up.

"You sound like a girl." He says, ignoring my actual question... Well more like demand.

I force him to tell me what's up, and eventually he tells me.

"I met a girl in a garbage can!" He says enthusiastically.

I give him a blank stare. "What."

"What?"

"What." I repeat.

"What what, what what. What what, what what. MACKLEMORE IN DA HOUSE!" Jacob shouts. "I'm going to pop some tags, only got twenty dollars in my pocket!" He starts to sing.

"Stop! Introduce the girl." I slap his head.

"Fine. Her name is Adalynn." He says simply.

"I said introduce her to me, not tell me what her name is." I say with a 'duh' tone in my voice.

"Oh... Well... She didn't give me her number or anything. But... She has a sister named Avery... What was it? Oh yes, Starr. Avery Starr."

"What?!" I say.

"What?" He asks.

"WHAT?!" This time I shout.

"What?" He repeats.

"Avery Starr?" My eyes widen.

"What? Do you know her sister or something?" He jokes.

"Yeah, in fact I do."

"What?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Are you sure it's Starr?"

"Right on."
