Chapter 2 - The Calming Tree

Chapter 2

*AVERY STARR*

"I ain't never met a girl like you, and you'll never find a man like me." The lyrics of Like That by Jack and Jack blasted through the speakers in my room.

"Woohoo!" Adalynn bounds into the room dancing crazily to the music.

"Ah!" I scream surprised by her sudden presence. "Seriously, Adalynn! Why'd you have to scare me like that?" I glare at her before turning down the volume of my speakers.

"Avery! This is my favourite part! Why'd you turn it down?" She runs over to the speakers and turns up the volume to the max.

I become furious, so I slip on my sneakers, and leave the house. I run all the way to my calming tree, the same tree that I first hung out with Joshua at. When I arrive, I see a figure sitting against the tree. No one is supposed to use this tree, except for me! As I come closer I see that the figure is Joshua.

"Joshua?" I am a bit surprised, we haven't seen each other for weeks.

He looks at me blankly, not recognizing who I am at first. "AVERY!" Joshua suddenly shouts.

He approaches me and his face start to get closer to my face but then I realize he is trying to kiss me.

"Ewwww!" I scream as I push him away and run a couple of metres away from him. I stare at the tree sadly. I came here to calm down, not to have more drama! I shake my head with disappointment at Joshua before leaving him by himself.
