Chapter 19
*AVERY STARR*
OH, NO. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ARE DEAD! I burst out crying. So does Adalynn.
All of sudden, Joshua and Jacob's mother's sad and worried expression turns into a smiling and laughing face.
"I'm just kidding!" She says in a teasing voice. "Put them in the trunk." She says. I look uqp at her, so confused from what just happened, but I immediately try to lift Joshua but he's way too heavy.
"He's too heavy, Adalynn can you carry him and I carry Jacob?" I ask Adalynn.
"Fine, but if I can't, you're carrying Joshua no matter what." Adalynn says, and looks at me warily.
I nod at her. I grab Jacob's arms and attempt at lifting him. I drop him and he plops right down on the floor. He's even heavier than Joshua!
"Avery! Why'd you just drop him?!" Adalynn places Joshua carefully on to the ground, as if showing me how to do it. Then, she runs over to Jacob and rests his head on her knee.
"I'm sorry, but he's even heavier than Joshua." I don't wait for her to respond before I turn to their mother. "Are you going to help us lift them? They're pretty heavy you know." I tell her, but I'm not saying it in a mean voice.
"But I'm old!" She screams. "You two have to respect me because I'm old, don't you know I'm 30, so you guys have to do the carrying into the trunk, and I open the trunk. See? I'm helping. It's called teamwork." She says, making herself clear enough that I decide not to argue back.
"Okay, okay, okay." I mutter. I lift Joshua with all my strength, and drag him to the car. Adalynn comes over and lifts his legs so he is fully placed inside the trunk.
"Time for Jacob." Adalynn states. This time, she grabs his arms, and I grab his legs, and together we place him safely into the car like Joshua.
We get into the back seats, and their mother starts driving like a maniac. I am sure we are speeding, but I decide not to tell her. We have to get Joshua and Jacob back to the house as fast as possible anyway.
All of a sudden, I feel a tug on my ponytail. I whip my head to look at the back, and I see Joshua holding the side of his face in pain.
"Why'd you do that?" He almost shouts.
"What? What'd I do?" I ask him.
"You WHIPPED me! You're so mean!" Now he is shouting.
"No I didn't!" I protest.
"Yes you did, with your ponytail! I don't like you." He sits back in the trunk and crosses his arms.
I roll my eyes and sit in my seat properly. Then I realize, Joshua is awake! I whip my head around once more. I see Joshua and Jacob playing chopsticks.
Wow.
I tap Adalynn, and gesture towards the trunk. She turns her head back and her eyes widen.
"Wow, seriously? Instead of telling us you guys woke up or whatever, you guys start playing chopsticks? Wow, wow, wow. Way to be cool guys." She says not pleased.
"Sorry." Joshua says childishly more to me than Adalynn.
"JACOB!" Adalynn screams bossily. "You have to say sorry also."
"SORRY!" Jacob screams back more focused on the game than Adalynn, then he turns around and sees that Adalynn is staring at him her mouth open because of the way he screamed carelessly at Adalynn.
Then something weird happens. "I want my mommy! WAHHHH!" Yep, Adalynn starts to cry.
*ADALYNN STAR*
I can't believe Jacob is treating me that way. I can't hold it back anymore. "I WANT MY MOMMY! WAHHHH!" I scream in between tears.
I turn back to Jacob to glare at him, then someone pulls me towards him.
I think it's Joshua.
My lips land on Jacob's. I try to pull away from him, remembering that I'm mad and upset at him, but I can't! I am in love with him, and I like to kiss him. So I kiss him while their mom is in the car and Joshua and Avery are watching.
"Kids! This is inappropriate behaviour for the car!" Joshua and Jacob's mom screams from the front.
"Mom! Look at the front, we're going to get into a car crash!" Joshua yells.
Their mom doesn't look to the front, she looks back at us, attempting at driving straight. "It's okay, we won't-"
The car crashes. I scream. Avery screams. Their mom screams. Jacob screams. Joshua screams, EVERYONE IS SCREAMING!!
After five seconds of silence, everyone starts asking each other if they're okay. "I'm fine, thanks for asking." I say to Jacob when he asks me.
My first instinct is to check if the person in the other car is okay, so I get out and walk towards the car. I see a pool of blood in the car.
I walk slowly, closer over the blood, where I know the person is.
My eyes widen, and my mouth opens in shock.
The person we crashed into.
It's Mr. Leo King.
