Chapter 12

*AVERY STARR*

I walk back to our car parked in the parking lot, disappointed that Joshua and Jacob ran away before me and Adalynn could react to ANY of the things that happened.

I was so confused!

WHAT JUST HAPPENED IN THE RESTAURANT!

My idea for the double date completely failed. I start crying.

"Avery! Why are you crying like a cry-baby?" Adalynn starts shouting at me.

"I don't know." I say and then I hiccup. I ask her. "Why are you yelling at me?"

She sighs. "Probably because you randomly started crying..." She looks at me from the corner of her eye. "Let's just go." She grabs my arm and pulls me into the car. "We don't ever need to talk to those annoying dudes ever again." She reassures me, but her strong voice leaves.

I start crying at the same time as Adalynn starts crying too!! Aw man. We are two sisters, crying in the car.

*ADALYNN STARR*

We are finally home. I am pretty sure we spent at least two hours sitting there crying. I sigh. I feel crazy.

My mother, whose name is Cuba Slithering Starr, walks into my bedroom. Her face is like a tomato. I think... She is very angry.

"WHY DID YOU TAKE SO LONG TO COME HOME, ADALYNN THEO STARR? HUH? EXPLAIN TO ME RIGHT NOW." She is shouting, and screaming, and demanding.

I cover my ears. "Please do not scream, mother Slithering." By the way, we call her mother Slithering because she told us we have to. And if we don't, there will be grave consequences, but she's never told us what they are.

"I AM ASKING YOU A QUESTION AND YOU ARE NOT ANSWERING. WHY ARE YOU BEING LIKE THIS, ADALYNN THEO STARR?" She uses my middle name again. I squeeze my eyes shut, I don't like hearing my middle name. It's a boy name.

"Mother Slithering, stop using my middle name and I will answer your question." I tell her annoyed.

"FINE, JUST HURRY UP ADALYNN TH-" She pauses. "I MEAN ADALYNN STARR."

"Okay, okay, okay. We were crying." I say in a sad voice.

"You were?" My mother's voice softens a little bit, it's just she's not screaming.

"Then she hugs me." I say like a narrator. My mother doesn't hug me.

"What are you saying?" She asks me with a confused expression.

"Nothing." I reply.

"Who made you cry?" She asks.

"Who made you cry? She asks." I say like a narrator again.

"STOP THAT ADALYNN THEO STARR." She screams at my face.

"STOP THAT ADALYNN THEO STARR. She screams at my face with spit coming out her mouth." I say again like a narrator.

"LEAVE THIS HOUSE AND NEVER COME BACK." My mother screams.

"LEAV-." I start, but Avery disrupts me.

"SHE WON'T LEAVE, MOTHER SLITHERING." Avery says with determination in her voice.

"Why not, Avery? Why do you think she won't listen to me?" She asks, evilly.

"Because, mother Slithering. Adalynn is in love with Jacob Selena Hawkes."
