Chapter 20 - The Burglar

Chapter 20

*JOSHUA HAWKES*

"Avery..." I say slowly. "Come here for a second?" I use my hand to pull her over.

She looks at me warily, and bites her lip. She looks down at the body. "Oh. My. God. Leo King? The guy that recognized you guys at the restaurant? The one that was in the forest?" Her eyes are huge.

I nod.

"Oh, great! We don't like him anyway." She says with light beaming into her eyes. "I'm god. I like the light!" Avery says awkwardly. She lifts the head but underneath, there lies a pack of ketchup.

All of a sudden, Leo King's eyes open.

"Why hello, Joshua Hawkes! I know you!" He says happily. "I just came back from McDonalds and I put the food behind my back to stop them from falling down!" He shakes his head. "I don't remember what happened after that." He drags a hand down his face and sees the ketchup on his hand. "OH MY GOODNESS! AM I BLEEDING?!?!?!?!?!?!?! AHHHH, PLEASE, JOSHUA, TELL ME I'M NOT DYING!"

"You are not dying," I tell him. "that is ketchup." I pick up the small packet of McDonalds ketchup to show it to him. "It just sort of got splattered all over your head." I take a napkin from the upside down bag of food. "Here's a paper to wipe your face and hair." I hand it to him.

"THANKS." He screams grumpily and angrily. "I don't like saying thank you to my geometry students."

"Um... Mr. King, you teach us geography, not geometry." I tell him.

"Ugh, you guys are so dumb. They are the same thing! Like duhhhhh!" He screams.

Avery whispers into my ear. "Awkward."

Avery and I crack up and Avery falls on to the floor from too much laughter.

Adalynn then realizes something. "Guys! We didn't even crash into Mr. King! Our car is crashed into a tree! All of us were so busy looking at the bloody guy that we didn't even realize that we didn't even actually crash into him."

I look at her in shock. It's true. We didn't crash into him.

"Mr. King, what happened to you, why are you on the ground with a ketchup pack under your head?" Avery asks him.

"I was standing outside of my car, trying to find some stars in the sky, even though it's morning. And then, my McDonalds was on my seat inside the car, and a chipmunk came, and pushed me out of the way. It was so strong that I fell over, and the chipmunk decided to put a ketchup pack under my head for me. So I was looking for stars while I was lying down." Leo King says very happily.

Then a chipmunk comes over and pushes Leo King in the driver's seat and the chipmunk jumps into the passenger seat. They start driving away slowly while laughing - well, mostly only Leo King.

"Just kidding, I'm actually married to that chipmunk!!" Mr. King says before kissing the chipmunk on the lips.

Everyone stares at each other in disgust. That was the most disgusting thing any of ushave ever seen. Avery and I go back in the car to drive back home.

Adalynn and I turn around to face each other. But by the corner of my eye I see a bright red Lamborghini.

"AHH!! Th... The rrred lambborrgghinni." I stutter.

Adalynn, Avery, and Joshua turn to the window on the trunk while mom drives at the speed of 200. Just then she stops abruptly at a red light just as the red Lamborghini bangs into our shack-car (which, by the way, is made of twigs, mud, and transparent cheap, dollar store crystals). Also we made it ourselves and the wheels are potatoes that are rotten.

All of a sudden, the red Lamborghini pulls up beside us at the red light.

Leo King, a burglar mask on his face, rolls down the window. "Avery, Adalynn, I will be waiting for you guys... in the forest." He grins evilly, and drives off, passing the red light.
