Vivian-
He didn't call.
Two weeks later and he hadn't called.
I don't know why I thought that Denis would have changed in the past few years, but still every time my phone rang my heart skipped a beat because I thought Denis was calling.
I sighed looking down at my phone to see a text from Jake.
It read:
'Are you free tonight?' He knew I was. I had today and tomorrow off of work.
As I was about to type my response saying I was free my phone rang, an unidentifiable number.
I quickly answered.
"Hello?" I said casually.
"Viv! It's Denis." I heard a Ukrainian accent on the other end of the line.
Oh my god.
"I could have figured it out by your accent Mr. rockstar." I giggled.
My god I sounded like a child.
"Oh....I'm sorry for not calling earlier, on my way to the car after we had drinks I dropped my phone and shattered the screen. I just not got it fixed." I could hear the embarrassment in his voice.
"Smooth. Always smooth Denis." I laughed.
"Anyway, what are you doing tonight?" He asked.
My mind flashed to Jake, then to Denis.
Should I really choose Denis over Jake?
"Nothing, why?"
"Because I'm planning to do some death defying stints at my show tonight and I may need a doctor there if anything goes wrong."
"You're crazy." I laughed.
"I try. But will you come? Maddie really wants to see you and I want to surprise her."
"She isn't pissed at me?"
"Of course not. She's just happy that you could be back in her life, just like I am."
I bit my lip.
Should I really go?
Or should I spend some time with Jake?
"Could you pick me up?" I asked.
"Yeah, what's your address?" He asked.
"220 melbrook"
"Okay, that isn't too far. I'll be there in ten minutes." He said, hanging up.
Ten minutes.
What the hell.
That isn't enough time to get ready.
Not even close.
I quickly ran upstairs, pinning the front pieces of my hair back and then running to my closet to find something to wear.
I threw out the T shirts and leggings a long time ago for business casual attire.
The closest I had was a pair of ripped jeans and a red sweatshirt.
It would have to do.
I threw on my shoes and check my appearance in the mirror.
Okay I looked somewhat decent.
The doorbell rang and I quickly ran down the stairs, pushing my cat away from the door with my foot as I opened it.
Denis stood there, a smile on his face.
