Chapter 31

The Hargreeves, Lila, and Rhea watched as the car with Reginald and Grace in it drove away.

And with it, the chance to talk to him.

"You know, I'm starting to get the feeling Dad's avoiding us," said Five.

"Yeah, he really didn't like any of you," commented Rhea.

"Hate to be the boring one, guys, but, it's time we get the hell out of here," Lila changed the subject.

She put her hand on Rhea's shoulder and pushed Rhea towards the exit.

"When you say 'we,' who exactly are you referring to?", asked Five.

The sisters stopped and turned back around.

"Not a lot of ambiguity in that sentence," Lila said.

"Listen, I don't know who you are or where you came from, but whatever it is, I'd advise you to return posthaste."

"She's right, Five. We gotta get outta here."

"I just saved your life, you kid-shit," Lila reminded the teenager. "If I hadn't stepped in, all that would be left of you is a blazer and some bloody socks."

"And that's the problem," Five replied. "You're too good. You ask too many questions. You know too much. And you fight like you know what you're doing."

"He's got a point," Diego agreed with his brother and Riley also nodded in agreement.

"So I know how to handle myself, and that makes me the bad guy?", Lila wanted to know.

"Whoever you are, you're in my way. If I see you again, I will kill you," said Five.

"You are rude," said Rhea.

"I do not care."

Five took Riley's hand and together they walked past the others.

Lila scoffed and started to leave too, but stopped again when she noticed Diego wasn't moving.

"Diego, we need to go."

"I was getting my ass handed to me back there. You helped Five, not me. Why?", Diego wanted to know.

"Because he's a kid and you're a man. Bloody act like one. And would expect you to do the same if it was Rhea and me."

Diego nodded.

Then he too walked past Rhea and Lila.

"Diego, I—We shouldn't—"

"You know what? I'm used to dealing with liars, Lila, but I like it better when I know what they're lying about."

The man turned and walked away without another word.

"Oh, come on, Diego. Really? You're just going to walk away? Diego."

"Lila?"

Rhea put her hand on Lila's arm to get her attention.

"We need to get out of here."

Lila nodded and put her arm around Rhea's shoulders.

"Wanna have some ice cream?"

A few hours later, Riley, Five, Diego, and Luther were standing in Elliott's kitchen.

Riley didn't know how Luther got here, but they didn't really care.

They were just happy he was here.

"No, no, no, I don't understand. They keep following me," Diego complained.
