*Colette's POV*

I sit in my bedroom of my house, crying tears that wouldn't stop brimming. My heart felt like it just got stomped on and my head wouldn't stop throbbing from my thoughts racing a mile an hour.

My husband, Matthew, who I married about eight months ago, left his phone here at home before going to work.

I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth for bed since it was 9:00 PM. All of the sudden, after I was done, Matthew's phone buzzed.

I usually don't snoop, so I didn't and went to my dresser to change clothes. But as I turned to look in the mirror, I saw that the new message on Matt's phone had a bright red heart emoji on it.

I frown. Now I was curious.

I slowly walk up to the phone and look closer at the screen.

"New Message from: Hanna ❤️"

And now I just can't stop crying.

I could be overreacting. Hanna could be a close friend or maybe some kind of cousin I've never heard of.

I wish I knew Matt's password to actually know what the text read. Because now my thoughts were haunting me which brought the tears.

Maybe he's cheating. Maybe you're not good enough for him. Maybe he will divorce you and go marry Hanna instead.

My mind was making my heart ache so much I couldn't stop hugging myself to keep myself together.

And then suddenly I hear the front door open.

I glance at the clock in horror. It was 9:30 PM now. The time Matt gets off work.

Oh God.

"Baby I'm home!" Matt yells sounding as gleeful as ever.

He can't see me like this. I can't tell him I saw the message. It might destroy our marriage! I can't risk that!

I obey my thoughts and quickly wipe my eyes free of tears and splash water in my face in the bathroom to maybe get rid of the red around my eyes.

Didn't work.

I can't do anything about the bloodshot eyes. Maybe I can just tell him I'm hormonal. Or maybe I'm just upset about girl stuff.

The door knob to our bedroom jiggles.

No!

Matt enters without me being able to even prepare.

"Baby girl?" Matt coos, poking his head inside our bedroom and scoping the room.

He then sees me in the bathroom and grins at me.

He sets down his briefcase and opens his arms for me.

"C'mere! I've missed you so much" Matt pleads.

You have to act normal, Colette.

I sigh and quickly speed walk towards him so he wouldn't see my face up close. I hug him quickly and hide my face in his chest.

Matt smiles and kisses the top of my head.

"I missed my beautiful Colette" Matt whispers to me. I start to smile but then the expression quickly disappears.

I can't just forget that text message without a clear answer.

Matt pulls away from the hug and then looks into my eyes to find them bloodshot. I sigh as Matt's happy expression transforms into a concerned one.
