*Alex's POV*
I watch outside my living room window as rain pitter patters on the sidewalk and stream down the glass.
The thunder booms again, making Kian, who was currently eating his breakfast of Lucky Charms, jumped and ran onto my lap, quivering.
I put on a small, assuring, and fake smile for him and petted his blonde hair.
"Sweetheart, it's just a little bad weather" I say with my most soothing, motherly voice I could use.
"B-But why is it so l-loud?" Kian stammers, gripping fistfuls of my shirt in fear.
I smile and turn Kian so he is facing me and not the rain. "You know" I start. "Your grandpa always told me that thunder is just God bowling."
Another thunder booms, but doesn't scare Kian this time as now he was smiling with curiosity.
"See?" I prove. "God just got a strike."
Kian giggles and rests his head on my chest as I kissed his head and let him fall asleep.
As Kian slumbered, I kept on thinking about Matthew, as I have been doing for the past couple of days.
Ever since his drunken appearance, Matt has been gone for three days now. Kian is traumatized from the sight of seeing Daddy hurt Mommy, and now thinks that Daddy is either dead or has left us.
And that's not fair for my baby boy. When I married Matthew, I was positive that our kids would believe that we were soulmates and nothing less.
Maybe I was wrong at the time.
My phone buzzes from the kitchen table, making me sigh. I carefully lift Kian up and hold him to my chest as he continued to snore, and picked up my phone to see what alerted me.
I almost gasped as relief and anger flew throughout me.
"Matty: Meet me at our spot. 12:00."
I frown as memories explode like fireworks in my mind. I remember our spot. It was where we first met.
It was a really old playground. I remember I was nine years old and I had a dress on that day, floral and white. I had went down the slide and my dress for caught on it so everyone saw my underwear.
I was completely and utterly embarrassed, but then little nine year old Matt approached me and whispered to me "Don't be embarrassed. I think your butt is cute."
Ever since that day, we became best friends, a couple, and now we are married with one child.
I realized my phone had turned off automatically from me just standing there, reminiscing, so I tossed my phone into my purse, tucked Kian into his bed, whispering "I'll be right back...hopefully with Daddy" to him, then left the apartment.
* * *
I have been sitting at this abandoned playground for almost an hour now and no Matt has shown.
Did he think this was some kind of joke?
I tried to calm the anger inside me but I really couldn't, because I was now soaked from rain head to toe and no Matt had shown yet whatsoever, or even texted me with a "I can't make it" or "haha jokes on you!"
I finally pick myself up and make my way back to my parked car. I can't believe I even believed he would show. It's not like he even cares.
As I go to open my car's door, I feel a hand grab my arm and pull me back. I scream, startled, but whip around to only see it was Matt, as drenched as I was.
I stand stunned, as our hazel alike eyes lock on each other and stay there. Matt is finally the first to speak.
"Alex I don't know if you have it in your heart to forgive me, because I wouldn't even be able to forgive me, but I just want you to know that I'm in love with you" Matt yells over the loud rain.
Tears come to my eyes, but I doubt Matt noticed since the rest of my face was soaked.
Matt continues. "Alex from day one, when I saw your adorable little nine year old butt, to today with our marriage and our beautiful baby boy, I have been the happiest I could ever be. And guess what? That's because of you, and Kian. You and Kian are my life now. And I cannot ever forgive myself for hurting the only two things I have left."
A sob escapes my shut lips, and when Matt hears it, he traps me into a tight embrace, swaying us back and forth as he did so.
"Alex I love you. I am so sorry" Matt cries.
It takes me a long time to hug Matt back as he held me so close and tight, but then I remembered our wedding vows, Matt slipping my ring on my finger with tears down his cheeks, and the big grin he had after he kissed me, his new lawfully wedded wife.
And that's when I hug him back.
* * *
Matt kisses my cheek as I opened our apartment, making me giggle. We stroll inside and smile at each other as then Kian ran out of his bedroom in excitement.
"D-Daddy?" Kian cries, making me have to hold back tears for how pained Kian looked.
Matt's eyes begin to water endlessly as he swooped up Kian in one motion and held him tight to his chest.
"I'm home Kian" Matt whispers as he then kisses his head. "And I will never leave ever again" Matt promises.
Matt notices me standing there, crying with happiness, as he extends out one free arm for me to join the hug.
I smile and embrace my son and husband, as he then whispered to us both "I love you."
And Kian and I both say back "I love you too."
