Joshua and Jeonghan have just returned from a day out with their family, and Jeonghan's whole family was on hand to take care of them. It was a wonderful day, full of good times and wonderful memories. Laughter, smiles and sweet moments filled the space, Joshua rarely felt better in his life, and Jeonghan was really happy to see his boyfriend so at peace with his family.
When the two boys settle down at home, they head off to bed, exhausted by the day, Joshua rests his head on his boyfriend's chest and closes his eyes, but before he and Jeonghan can drift off to sleep, the younger boy's phone starts ringing. Joshua wonders what's going on because at an hour like this, everyone is usually asleep and not making calls. When he reaches for his cell phone and sees the contact, he immediately stresses. His uncle never calls him, let alone at an hour like this.
Without hesitation, Joshua answers and his uncle tells him that his grandfather has just had a cardiac arrest, he's dead now, the young man blinks and can't believe his ears, slowly he turns to Jeonghan and Jeonghan looks at him with concern, he gently rubs his boyfriend's back and whispers [ What's going on? ] Joshua can't answer, so Jeonghan takes the cell phone from his boyfriend's hands and puts it on speaker. That's when he realizes that his grandfather, the person Joshua admired and loved so much, has joined the stars just now.
" Hannie. We're off. I want to see it, I want to realize it with my own eyes."
Jeonghan nods, tells Joshua's uncle that they're on their way, and he asks them to notify the other members of their immediate family. He's talking about Joshua's father's two sisters, of course, and Joshua decides to call his other two aunties anyway, despite being a little confused. He managed to reach them, and each time he kept repeating " Aunt, are you with me ? " countless times to make sure the person was with her before explaining what was going on.
Once all the calls had been made, the two lovers got out of bed and headed straight from their home to Joshua's grandparents' house, where the black-haired boy found his parents, uncle and grandmother. Together with his two parents and Jeonghan, they go to see the grandfather in one of the beds in the big house, and Joshua breaks down, crying his eyes out, and Jeonghan comes to take him in his arms, to support and reassure him. The younger Joshua sighs, but manages to calm himself in the warm embrace offered by his boyfriend.
-> The day of the funeral
Many people are there to witness this, Joshua's grandfather was someone to love and respect so most have come for him. It's a difficult time for everyone, with Joshua staying with his devastated cousin and seeking support and comfort from his boyfriend from time to time. As he leaves the church, Joshua sighs and looks up at the sky; he hasn't cried, he hasn't succeeded, although everyone else has.
" Shua... what are you thinking about ? "
" As hard as it is I didn't manage to cry."
" You've always been an emotionally hard person. You rarely show your emotions, a bit like your father. Look, even he didn't cry."
" He shed a tear this morning."
A slight smile takes place on Joshua's lips and his boyfriend comes to hug him, the younger boy returns the embrace to his elder and calms the frantic rhythm of his heart like this. After a few seconds like this, the two boys pull away from each other and together they head off with the rest of the family to eat at the restaurant. Inside the restaurant, Joshua sits down with his cousins, and Jeonghan is also there beside him.
The older man puts one of his hands on the younger one's thigh and makes little circles to soothe the boy, getting him to eat a few things too, even though Joshua's stomach is in knots, Jeonghan manages to get him to eat little things. After the restaurant, there's one last stop: his mother has promised him that the hardest part is over, so he's convinced himself that it's true.
When they get there, they immediately go into the little room reserved for final farewells. So far, although it's been extremely difficult, Joshua still hasn't shed a tear, Jeonghan is there for him, taking his hand and the whole family listening to the music playing as they look at the coffin. All goes quietly, until the final events arrive.
Everyone can come and write something on the coffin and place rose petals on it, and all the family members manage to do so, except one. When Joshua sees his father come to, he leans over and says.
" I couldn't write, I just couldn't."
And he started to cry, every tear in his body, and it was only then that Joshua started to cry too, in all his life he'd never seen his father so devastated, he'd never seen him shed a tear for anything, but today is different, he's lost his father, although he's held his tears until now, today being really the last farewell, the tears couldn't be held back, at least not for much longer. Joshua came to take his father in his arms and they cried together like that for a long time.
After this painful moment had passed, everyone went outside and Joshua went straight to take his boyfriend in his arms, Jeonghan of course returned his lover's embrace and gently rocked him to calm him down, and it worked. After a few moments, Joshua stepped back and Jeonghan came to wipe the last salty drops from his lover's face.
Then he gently places a kiss on his lover's forehead and lips. They're chaste little kisses, but they're necessary if Joshua is to really calm down. Once he's completely calmed down, Joshua turns to his family and says goodbye to everyone and gives his father and cousin one last hug, then returns to his boyfriend and together, without saying a word, they walk to their car and head home.
Once they arrive at their house, Jeonghan still doesn't speak, waiting for Joshua to express himself first, giving him as much time as he needs. It doesn't take long for the young man to crawl into his boyfriend's arms, sigh again and bury his head against his eldest's chest. Jeonghan strokes his boyfriend's back and hair, and places a few kisses on his face.
" It's going to be so hard. We'll visit my grandma often now, she needs us by her side."
" Of course Shua, don't worry, we'll be there for her. Whatever happens she's not alone. And you're not alone either, don't just lean on yourself, lean on me, hm ? "
" Hm, I'm really lucky to be accompanied in life by such a wonderful man as you. "
Jeonghan doesn't answer anything, but he swears to himself and promises to take care of his boyfriend in this difficult moment, and not just then either. In every moment of his life, Jeonghan makes sure and promises to be there for his boyfriend, Joshua has to keep in mind that no matter what happens he's not alone and he never will be.
