The sun hit Monaco with its usual arrogant brightness — like it knew the entire world was watching.
Your garage buzzed with tension. Engineers checking final settings, pit crew running tire blankets, radios crackling. Everyone moved with the sharp focus that only race day in Monte Carlo could bring.
And amid all of it — standing like she belonged on the red carpet instead of in a pit garage — was Josi.
She wore the dress. Floor-length, high slit, black with silver details that caught every glint of sunlight like diamonds. Her hair was perfect, her sunglasses oversized, and her presence unmistakable. Even the Ferrari mechanics paused when she walked past. Cameras panned to her twice.
You (teasing):
"Trying to outshine the grid, are we?"
She turned and flashed you a dazzling smile.
Josi:
"I figured if I can't drive the car, I might as well win best dressed."
You smirked, shaking your head as you adjusted your suit.
Then Max V. showed up — early, naturally, wearing a Red Bull shirt like he hadn't even realized it was clashing with everything around him. He strolled in casually, dodging a couple of Mercedes team members with a grin.
Max:
"Just here to say good luck. From me and your orange friend."
You:
"Lando sent you?"
Max:
"Yep. Said if he came himself, you'd bite him."
You rolled your eyes, but before you could say anything, Max grinned wider and added—
Max:
"Oh, and also... that dream? Seriously? Slow motion Monaco overtake with a wave?"
(laughing)
"That's cinema."
Your eyes widened.
You:
"Wait—how do you know about the dream?"
Josi (innocently):
"I might've mentioned it to him.."
Max:
"And I might've told her I already knew because she told me yesterday."
You:
"You both betrayed me. I see how it is."
Max:
"Listen, if you didn't want us to know, you shouldn't have had such a dramatic nightmare."
You groaned and covered your face with your hands.
You:
"It was one dream, and suddenly I'm the star of the Monaco fanfiction section."
Max:
"You are the Monaco fanfiction section."
Even your engineer chuckled from across the garage.
Grid Formation — Minutes to Lights Out
You climbed into the car, buckled in tight. The halo curved around your vision like a visor into war.
Your engineer's voice came in calm over the radio.
Engineer:
"Alright, everything's looking good. Temps are solid. Track is hot. Remember: race is long. Stay sharp, stay clean."
You responded with a calm acknowledgment, but inside you were hilarious. Every emotion overlapped — adrenaline, disbelief, pure nerves, and an echo of that ridiculous dream.
