The rooftop bar had been a dance — a mix of playful jabs, knowing glances, and conversations that skirted around the edges of what neither of you dared say out loud.
When Lando finally left, you told yourself it was the end of it.
You barely got your shoes off before your phone buzzed again.
Lando:
"Window's open. Figured I'd make a surprise visit. Don't worry, I'm not planning to steal your snacks."
Your heart skipped. You stared at the message, debating. Part of you wanted to ignore it — but you knew better.
You slipped on a light jacket, crept to the window overlooking the city, and there he was — leaning casually on the fire escape, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.
"Seriously?" you called out.
He shrugged, eyes gleaming. "Couldn't resist. Thought you might be bored without me."
You sighed, but there was a smile tugging at your lips. "Fine. But if you're here, you're explaining how you managed to sneak past security."
He grinned wider. "Let's just say... I have my ways."
You helped him inside, the city lights casting long shadows across the room.
For a moment, silence hung between you — heavy, electric.
He looked at you, voice low and teasing, "You know, I've been thinking about that gravel trap incident a lot."
You arched an eyebrow. "Oh? Planning your revenge?"
"Maybe," he said, stepping closer. "Or maybe I just wanted a reason to be near you."
Your breath caught.
You laughed, soft but nervous. "You're impossible."
"Only for you," he whispered.
The tension snapped as he reached out, brushing a stray lock of hair from your face.
You closed the distance, eyes locked, and for the first time that night, everything unspoken between you spilled into that charged, stolen moment.
The city lights spilled through the window, casting a warm glow on the space where you and Lando stood way too close for comfort.
He smirked, that infuriating, cocky grin.
"So, you think pushing me into gravel was just strategy?"
You crossed your arms, matching his smirk with your own.
"Maybe it was. Maybe I wanted to see you fail for once."
He scoffed. "Fail? Please, I was just letting you have a head start. You're lucky I didn't crash you instead."
"Lucky?" Your voice rose an octave, heart pounding. "You're so full of yourself. That was dirty, even for you."
He took a step closer, voice dropping to a low, teasing growl.
"Oh, I'm dirty. You just don't want to admit you love it."
You rolled your eyes but couldn't hide the heat blazing behind them.
"Love it? You wish. I'm nothing like you."
"Yeah? Then why do you keep looking at me like you want to rip my helmet off?" His grin faded, replaced by something rawer, more urgent.
The space between you shrank until it was just your breaths mingling.
You wanted to scream at him — tell him to back off, to stop messing with your head. But instead, your voice came out shaky, low.
"Maybe I do."
He chuckled softly, fingers curling just inches from your cheek.
"Maybe I'm the only one who gets you."
