Kai pushed open the front door with a long sigh, sweat-damp hair sticking to his forehead, and his hoodie tied lazily around his waist. The house was quiet except for the faint hum of the fridge and the shuffle of feet socked feet on the wood floor.

"Kaiiiiii!" came a small, delighted voice.

Lloyd appeared from around the corner, wearing mismatched socks and a blanket cape dragging behind him. His messy blond hair stuck up in all directions

"You're back!" he beamed, running up for a hug.

Kai, still sweaty and exhausted, blinked at the small boy clinging to his side. "...Lloyd. Socks on the floor again?"

Lloyd blinked up at him with wide green eyes. "I wanted to surprise you!"

"You almost surprised me into a faceplant."

Lloyd giggled and clutched the blanket tighter around himself. "Did you punch anything at the gym?"

Kai ruffled his hair, smirking. "No punching. Only lifting. And dying. A little."

"You're still alive," Lloyd said proudly, holding up a thumbs up with his tiny hand. "I knew you could do it!"

Kai melted a little right then and there.

"Thanks, buddy," he said, softening, and nudged him toward the kitchen. "Now go sit before your socks slip and you turn into a mop."

Lloyd gave a tiny gasp, nodded seriously, and waddled off with the blanket like a tiny wizard retreating to his lair.

When Kai got to the kitchen, there was a plate waiting for him, slightly reheated dumplings and a few spring rolls on the side. He smiled.

"Thanks, Nya..." he mumbled, recognizing her care even if she wasn't in the room.

He sat down, scarfed the food like a starving beast, then rubbed his face with both hands, the gym session hitting him all over again.

After washing his plate, Kai peeked into the living room and his heart melted a second time.

Lloyd had fallen asleep on the couch, curled up like a kitten under his blanket, one small hand still clutching the corner. His mouth was slightly open, soft breaths making the fabric rise and fall. Beside him, Nya sat with her legs tucked under her, scrolling on her phone, a quiet smile on her face as she glanced at the boy leaning against her side.

Kai walked over quietly and carefully picked Lloyd up in his arms.

"I got him," he whispered.

He carried Lloyd to his room, tucked him in gently, fixed the edge of his blanket around him, and pressed a kiss to his hair.

"Night, little spark."

Once Lloyd was settled, Kai headed to the bathroom, took a long, hot shower, and changed into a soft black t-shirt and loose flannel pants. His body was sore, but the warmth of the house, and his siblings, dulled it into something pleasant.

Back in the living room, he found Nya in the same spot.

"Everything okay?" she asked, still scrolling.

"Yeah," Kai said, stretching with a yawn as he collapsed beside her. "You wanna hear something stupid?"

She raised an eyebrow. "If it's about you accidentally lifting too much, I'm already bracing myself."

Kai rolled his eyes. "It's not that."

He hesitated for a beat.

"There was a guy. At the gym."

Now she put her phone down.

"Oh?"

"He helped me with weights. Big arms. Calm voice. Like... super chill. He was nice to me. Like flirty nice. He gave me his number, Nya."

Nya's grin widened. "You're blushing."

"I am not-okay, maybe a little. His name's Cole."

She gave him a gentle nudge with her elbow. "He sounds perfect for you."

Kai leaned his head against the couch cushion and exhaled. "He kind of is."

After sitting in thoughtful silence for a moment, Nya leaned over and whispered, "Text him."

Kai made a face. "Now?"

"Now."

Kai shrugs. "Im kinda scared.."

Nya rolls her eyes. "Forget about the past Kai. This is a great opportunity.*

Kai humms and nods. "Right...I'll try. Thanks sissy."

Nya smiled. "No problem big bro."

Kai stands up he hugs her and pecks her forehead. "Night and don't sleep too late." He said while walking to his bedroom.

Nya huffs. "Love you to!"

"I'm serious Nya!"

"Fineee."

Kai layed on his bed.

Kai:
hey. thanks for today. sorry if i was a mess lol. i really appreciate you helping me out

He stared at it for a second, then sent it.

Almost instantly, the "typing..." bubble appeared.

you weren't a mess. you were great :)
let me know if you're coming tomorrow i'd love to spot you again.

Kai smiled like an idiot.

He locked his phone, turned off the living room light, and padded toward his bedroom. His muscles ached, but his heart felt light.
