The afternoon sun hung high over the bustling high school courtyard, casting warm golden light across the scattered groups of students laughing and chatting between classes.

It was recess and the air carried the distant sounds of basketballs bouncing on the courts and shouts from the football field.

Cole Brookstone had claimed his favorite quiet spot under a sprawling oak tree at the far edge of the courtyard away from the chaos.

The tall ravenette of 180cm leaned back against the rough bark, olive green eyes narrowed in concentration on the open math textbook balanced in his lap. His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead as he reviewed complex formulas, earbuds playing soft instrumental music to drown out the noise.

As the quiet intelligent senior everyone relied on for notes and calm advice these isolated moments were his recharge time before afternoon classes and football practice.

He didn't notice Kai approaching until it was too late.

Kai Smith, the charismatic brunette captain of the basketball team 177cm, sauntered over with his usual confident swagger. His amber eyes sparkled with mischief, his school uniform shirt unbuttoned at the top to show a glimpse of his toned chest, tie hanging loose.

He'd been craving Cole's attention all morning. Without a word of warning Kai dropped down beside him, cupped Cole's jaw and stole a quick but firm kiss right on his lips.

Cole's olive eyes flew wide open a deep flush creeping up his neck and ears. He pulled back, blinking rapidly. "What the hell was that?" he muttered his voice low and slightly rough.

Kai grinned teasingly, amber eyes dancing. "Nothing," he replied innocently shrugging like he hadn't just kissed his "almost boyfriend" in a semi public courtyard.

Before Cole could protest further, Kai swung one leg over and settled boldly onto his lap facing him. He rested his head comfortably on Cole's broad shoulder pretending to study the math book. His body pressed warm and solid against Cole's, one arm draped loosely around the taller boy's neck.

"Kai," Cole sighed his hands instinctively landing on the brunette's hips to steady him. "People can see us."

"So? Let them look," Kai murmured against his neck his lips brushing the skin with every word. "You're comfy. And warm. Keep studying, big guy. I'll be good... mostly."

He shifted his hips in a slow, subtle grind smirking when he felt Cole tense beneath him.

Cole's fingers tightened on Kai's waist. "You better cause you're impossible today," he grumbled but he didn't push him off. He tried to refocus on the textbook one hand absently stroking Kai's back while the other turned a page.

Kai chuckled softly. "You love it. Admit it. My star football player getting all flustered under a tree? Cute." That made Cole blush and roll his eyes.

Chemistry class was even worse. The teacher stood at the front droning on about ionic bonds and the key topics for Friday's exam, scribbling diagrams on the whiteboard.
