Pregnancy Series: Clint
Finding out || Telling him -
You and Clint have been married for 6 years and you still haven't had a kid; and not for lack of trying! About 18 months after being married the two of you decided to try and start a family. You had no thoughts that it wouldn't work out the way you dreamed and it didn't even occur to you that something could go wrong - until it did. After 1 year of trying you went to the doctors and found out that Clint had a low sperm count, meaning it was very hard for you to get pregnant. The news temporarily devastated you but still you carried on trying; and have been for the past 3 and a half years. A couple of months ago you'd thought you might have been pregnant but turns out you were wrong. This had put your relationship with Clint under a massive strain. You hadn't tried for a baby as much and it hadn't been as enjoyable... You were genuinely worried about your relationship and whether it would continue to last. Tomorrow he was going on a mission, in Budapest, with Natasha. When you'd first got together it had been a bit hard for you to be comfortable with their friendship but eventually you understood that it was completely platonic. Well, you hadn't been so sure recently. For a while it seemed as though Clint would much rather go and train with Nat than spend any time with you. You knew you were probably overthinking it all because you'd felt down a lot lately. It had occurred to you that you might need to speak to the doctor about it and that though scared you. You didn't want to tell Clint about it in case it made matters worse.Clint arrived home at the same time he did every day and kissed you on the cheek like he did every day. Then the two of you sat down and ate dinner together. Neither of you were speaking when Clint suddenly said "Y/N I need to talk to you." You looked up and saw how serious he looked. Your heart dropped; something was wrong. "What's up?" He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I've been thinking... and I'm... I'm not sure that I... should... come home after Budapest." You stopped breathing, everything stopped. He was leaving you. "I... I... um... Why?"He sighed "You know why Y/N." You looked down and tried to hold the tears back. "I'm sorry." You said; adding 'that you don't love me anymore' in your head. He reached for your hand that was resting on the dinner table. You flinched back. He'd said it now, you weren't going to let him try and make it better - he no longer had the right to hold you. His face looked pained when you reacted like that. "Do you want a divorce then?" You asked, that question shot through you with a pain like no other. "I don't know yet, can we talk about it in a few days?" You nodded, not trusting yourself to be able to speak. Part of you wanted to scream and shout and beg him to stay and another part of you wanted to push him away, to get him as far away from you as possible, just to curl up in a ball and cry. You wanted the best for Clint, you loved him, and if that meant him leaving you and carrying on with his life then that's what you'd let him do. You stood up. Turned away from him and took a deep shaky breath, you let it out as a controlled blow of air. "I'll phone someone and ask if I can stay over." You said. He stood up "Y/N I'll go you stay here!" You shook your head. "No it's fine. That way you can pack for tomorrow properly." He ran a hand through his hair and nodded. He looked tense and upset, while you were just a mess. There was an awkward silence when a question popped into your head. "Clint. Are you sure this is what you want? I'm not going to come begging later on." He sighed and nodded again. "Y/N I think it's for the best." You finally felt the tears give way. Did 6 years mean nothing to him?!
About 20 minutes later and you'd just received a text from your best friend; saying she was outside. She was letting you stay over for a few nights. You hadn't explained why, you'd do that later on; it hasn't quite sunk in yet. You grabbed the bag you'd packed and walked downstairs. I'm going." You said to Clint who immediately jumped up. "When will you come back?" You shrugged your shoulders. "I don't know. I don't know if I can come back here." He didn't move or say anything. You put your bag down and stepped closer. There was one thing you needed to do before you left. You strode across the gap between you and kissed him. One last time. He didn't respond for a moment, but then he did. He held you close to him and held you tight. You pulled back and "I had to do that one last time. Good bye Clint." Then you pressed your lips to his, only quickly this time, before turning and rushing out the door in floods of tears.
