The Airport

I watched my sisters gleam as we waited at the airport. The airplane containing our uncle and cousins were supposed to land. I was also happy too, but I wondered if they were going to be spoiled. My two older brothers thought it also was a bad idea, but they came anyway.

I stared at my step uncle – he was an evil uncle – as he came to us with the kids. The boy was eight and the girl was seven.

I had to cover my ears as my sister squealed. Her name was Carmen; she’s thirteen – years – old, she loves dresses, but not as much as Jennifer, yet she still is a dress lover. Jennifer is twenty – years – old, she LOVES dresses, I mean; she wears short dresses in the spring, short dresses in the summer, short dresses in the autumn with tights, and long dresses with sweatpants in the winter. My name is Dessie; I’m fifteen – years – old, I’m not much of a girlie girl; I hate dresses, heels, jewelry, and well, pink. My older brother is Pedro; he’s sixteen – years – old, he’s such a smart aleck; he points out my mistakes, calls me stupid and actually makes me feel stupid all the time when I have A’s in my report card. Lastly, there’s Blake; he’s eighteen – years – old, he’s the best person that lives under the same roof as me, he cares about me and acts like a dad to me, he plays football with me, helps me with my homework and is the best role model.

I stared at the little girl, her name was Gabriella. She was cute, but not adorable; her brown eyes twinkled with shyness as my sisters went to greet her. The boy, well I like his hazel eyes, it’s like mine. I thought people were going to like him, but I’m not one of them, I know that I was going to despise him. It’s how Alex walked (that’s his name by the way), he walked like the world revolved around him and that he was better than everyone.

I smiled and waved at the kids, I don’t want to be rude.

I stopped waving as my step uncle came to hug me, I hated him! He went out with my aunt and got married with her, then he controlled her, beat her and she ended up insane. Her children were not my step uncle’s they were hers from her dead husband. Since my aunt went crazy, she left him and went to live in New York with my great grandmother, but she didn’t file divorce papers. Now with her out of the way, he takes it out on me. He calls me the worst things you could say to a person and enjoy their pain. He would make me feel disgusted about my body and I would only eat a little bit of bread and a lot of water for almost a week. He made me hate myself. When I told my parents, they just shrugged and said that he was only playing.

How dumb of them!

“Dessie!” my step uncle threw open his arms and hugged me. I had my arms to my side; I didn’t want to hug him…

When he let go of me, he was frowning.

“You’re gaining weight. No one is going to date you if you keep gaining weight. Not even your brother, Blake, will like a fat girl like Dessie…”

“Gee, thanks…” I looked at Blake for some help, but he was too busy talking to Gabriella. “At least I don’t make any one I know insane. You tend to do that to everyone…” I crossed my arms.

He laughed and I frowned.

“See what I am telling you, you hear what she is saying to me. You have to show her the Belt!” he called to my parents. He smiled as my dad came, showing his tobacco stained teeth. “Next time, talk to me better.”

My dad pulled my ears and whispered into one of them in Spanish, “If you keep disrespecting your uncle, I will show you the Belt…”

“Step uncle, you mean…” I winced.

He let go and turned to my step uncle, “Sorry,” he said in Spanish.

“It’s okay…” he said. My dad left.

I rubbed my ears as I stared at my dad leave. “Good job making my parents do your dirty work,” I mumbled.

“You know, you would be a beautiful young lady if you take out your attitude and fatness. Also, that Jacob kid is not good,” he whispered. He squeezed my shoulder.

“Who? Jacob? I don’t have any guy friends or boyfriends, crazy old man.” I growled.

“Never lie to your uncle!” he snapped and pinched my shoulder.

How could he have found out about Jacob, my GUY friend, not boyfriend? NO ONE KNOWS!!!

I stand corrected, my uncle knows and he could tell my parents, being the snitch he was.

“I’m not lying…” I shrugged his hand off walked to my parents with my hands in my pockets.

While we were leaving, I trailed behind everyone. Blake had forgotten about me, he was busy talking to Gabriella. I held most on the luggage. Alex walked with my mom, walking like he was a king.

My mom stopped him, bent down to talk to him and pointed at me. Alex ran to me and stared at me as we walked.

I groaned inside my head.

This kid was not going to leave me alone...
