Jacob stared at a ring. It was pure silver with a ruby on it. He admired it; Dessie’s favorite color was red…
“How may I help you?” a woman asked.
He looked at her and she gulped.
“Ah…th – that ring is very pretty…she would love it…” she blushed.
“Yeah…” Jacob smiled.
Her face became redder.
“Are you okay?” Jacob asked.
“Yeah! I’m fine! It’s not like inside myself I’m emotionally broken, because I don’t have a boyfriend!” she laughed awkwardly.
“Am I supposed to not worry or worry?”
“NO! NEVER! You don’t have to worry about me!”
“Are you sure?” Jacob said, concerned.
The jeweler broke down crying.
Jacob went to her and patted her back. Drama queen… he thought.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m dead in the inside…” she said quietly.
“You know what? I’m going to buy the ring and get your number to see if one of my friends would like to know –”
“I seem desperate…” she sniffed.
“What is your name?”
“Peaches…”
“Okay, Peaches, I’m going to buy the ring and I’m going to take you to the restaurant where I am going to propose to my girlfriend.”
“Really?” Peaches’s dark green eyes stared at Jacob.
“Yes.”
She hesitated before nodding. “I’m eighteen, by the way…and I live alone…”
She surely tells me everything she’s thinking… Jacob thought.
“I’m Jake, it’s nice to meet you,” he smiled and held out his hand.
She shook it and smiled.
“May! Take my shift!” Peaches said.
Jacob stared at her blonde curls as she went to talk to a coworker. He and Peaches went to the restaurant after Jacob bought the ring.
At the restaurant…
Jacob walked in and sat next to me. A woman sat next to Juliet. I talked to the woman a bit and found out that her name was Peaches.
We all ate a fancy dinner and wine was brought to us.
Jacob and Peaches drank it. I stared at it.
“Drink it,” Juliet said.
I looked at her; I used my look of you – have – to – drink – it – with – me.
“I can’t, I’m driving…”she smiled.
I picked it up and drank it. It burned a little as it went down my throat. The feeling reminded me of soda. Something shined in there. I used a spoon to take it out. I stared at a ring. It was silver with a red ruby on it.
I looked at Juliet then at Jacob. I was speechless.
Jacob took it off the spoon and went to me. He went down on one knee.
“Angel,” he said, “I knew you for a long time…I loved you for a long time…do you love me?”
I couldn’t get anything out…
“Say yes!” Juliet and Peaches whispered.
“I love you too…” I said quietly.
“Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” I smiled as tears went down my cheek; as he put the engagement ring on my ring finger. He stood me up and kissed me on the mouth. My heart skipped a beat.
People stared at us as Juliet and Peaches clapped. Peaches started to cry loudly and Juliet patted her back, trying to cheer her up.
“You saved me…you’re my Guardian Angel…” Jacob said.
I kissed him, “You’re my Guardian Angel too…”
“Let’s go to the bar!” Peaches ran out the restaurant.
Juliet, Jacob and I followed her outside.
I put on my jacket. I stared at the starry night sky. There was a full moon. I breathed into the air, I could see my breath. I smiled. I jumped into Juliet’s car. Peaches, Juliet and Jacob followed.
He drove away.
