At the Bar

I was drunk after two drinks. Jacob drank around three. He started to hiccup. I laughed as Peaches danced around spilling her beer. I looked over and saw a guy flirting with Juliet and she stayed serious.

I sat next to her and she shooed the guy away.

“That’s the longest flirt I had ever experienced and I didn’t flirt back…” Juliet mumbled.

“Why don’t you live life?” I asked, “Flirt with the dude! He looks cute…” I smiled.

Juliet laughed.

“Hey, you’re engaged! Don’t think about other guys!” she smiled.

“Are you not flirting, because you have a man back home?”

“I’m divorced…” she frowned.

“Oh…” I said quietly, “What’s his name?”

“Romeo…”

“That’s ironic…did his and your parents not accept each other? Did you live the life of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet?”

“No…I did not…” she said quietly, “Our parents wanted us together actually…”

“Why did you divorce?”

“We hated each other a lot. So I caught him cheating on me with a woman…” she said sadly.

“That’s sad…”

She nodded and leaned closer to me. “Sadly, he’s still alive and once in a while his parents make him see me…”

“Wow, I want to meet him…”

“Huh?”

“So I can tell him what he’s missing! He shouldn’t have cheated on you!”

“We hate each other…”

“Romeo and Juliet loved each other!

She patted my back.

“Okay, I’ll do what you say…” she smiled.

“When’s he coming?”

“Some time tomorrow.”

“Let me stay over.”

“Okay.”

“Right now, practice on that dude so it can be perfect for Romeo!” I laughed.

“If that guy offers me drugs, then I will arrest him…”

“Aren’t you an off – duty cop?”

“The day I divorced with Romeo, I told my chief that he could call me whenever he needs me for no extra payment.”

“Oh…”

“I can arrest the guy and call for him to be taken away…”

I got up and nodded, “Have fun!” Juliet grabbed my arm and made me sit down.

“I have to tell you something first, I really trust you,” she said.

“Hit me…” I smiled.

“My friend, Lucy, she lives in Kentucky and she’s a cop too. She is investigating a runaway and she said that it was a girl and boy; fifteen and seventeen. Their names are Dessie and Jacob,” she said in a low voice.

I was shocked when I heard my name.

“That’s sad…” I said quietly.

She nodded.

“Have fun…” I smiled wryly and got up and tried to forget.

When I started to have fun with Jacob, I forgot about it. I turned to Juliet and…

Everything happened so slowly…

I was watching Juliet flirt with the guy. He pulled opened his jacket and her eyes widened just a bit.

She stood up and told the man to stand up. He did that.

“Turn around!” she grabbed her police badge and shoved it into his face, “You are under arrest!”

The man twirled around, and put his hands behind his back. I saw the shock on his face. Juliet cuffed him.

“You are under arrest for possession of drugs and needles,” she growled then told him his rights.

She took him outside and I followed her. I watched her put him inside a cruiser and slam the door shut. She turned around as it drove away. She stared at me, her smile disappeared.

“I’m sorry…” she said quietly.

“I’m not mad…” I sighed, “I think that guy is stupid…”

She smiled and went up to me.

“Let’s go home…” she said, “Go call Jake and I’ll call Peaches.”

I nodded and went inside. I went into shock as a girl was dancing a little too close – make that a lot – to Jacob. I went up to her and shoved her back. She went back a couple of inches and glared at me.

“Isawhimfirst!” she slurred.

“I saw him before you!” I growled.

She lunged at me and I grabbed her hands before they ripped my eyes out my sockets. I twisted them and made her turn her around until her back was to me and kicked her. She tumbled into the tables and everyone started to laugh.

“I know people!” she shrieked.

“Yeah, and I know a cop!” I growled at her.

“Let’s go…” I grabbed Jacob’s arm and took him out of the bar.

Juliet was dragging Peaches out.

“We’re staying at your house,” I told Juliet.

“Peaches don’t even know her address so she’s staying also,” Juliet told me. I nodded.
