The night Inuyasha heard the old man Daimyo was counting his days scared him.

What could scare Inuyasha except death?

Not his death, but of those around him.

How lonely will he be then?

Like giving a starving man fruit one day and then never again. How much more hungrier will he feel as he remembers what sweet fruit tastes like?

Inuyasha slammed open the doors to his room. Moroha was a heavy sleeper so the noise didn't bother her. Frantically he pulled out whatever he owned.

Which wasn't much.

A couple sets of clothes for Moroha, her diaper cloth and money. Inuyasha rummaged through a drawer to find a clothe to wrap this all in.

"Going somewhere at this hour?"

The half demon froze.

He turned back to see Daimyo Fujimura, arms crossed, yet a light hearted expression masked his face.

He felt the pit in his stomach.

Inuyasha gulped.

"Leaving without informing me?" He questioned as he walked right in. "That doesn't seem like a thing you'd do."

Inuyasha dropped the miscellaneous fabrics and shut the drawer.

"You lied," the demon hissed out.

He got up from his knee and turned to face the old man.

"You said no secrets."

He doesn't seem startled or concerned whatsoever. Again he was in front of Inuyasha pretending to not be afraid of him. Acting as if he knew him.

"You're right I did," he admitted rather easily. "I want to make you the next lord."

"What?" Inuyasha snarled. "That's doesn't- why would I want that? What made you think I needed your- anything?!"

Despite Inuyasha's rising anger Mr.Fujimura didn't falter.

"You could secure your future. Her future. A life for her. Happy, prosperous."

"I'm not an idiot! Money won't buy her happiness! Don't think you can use her to get to me! If your goal was to be so charitable to us then you would have emptied your pockets on us in the first place!"

Inuyasha threw the katana at his feet.

"I'm no fool!"

Old man's gaze fell gently on the sword. He picked it up by the hilt with care. He dusted and dirt off. "I never took you as one."

"Then tell me the truth! You want to help me, why!? What's your game huh?! What do you get out of all of this?"

"I get a successor!" He shouts.

Inuyasha is taken aback. He's never heard this old man yell like that. He's even surprised that he still had it in him.

"I need someone to take after everything I've lived to protect. These people were dying and I fixed that. I built this home for them. I won't be here forever. I can't be here forever." Old Man Fujimura grieved. Maybe not as dramatically as most were used too, but Inuyasha recognized grief.

"I need to protect them."

He held out the katana. An offering.

"Don't point a sword on me." The half demon's face scrunched. "I'll kill you."

The old man smiled. Inuyasha couldn't even look him in the eyes and say that. "No, you wouldn't."

"I'm a demon." He readied his claws. "Did you forget? I could kill you right now and no one could stop me."
