“What are you doing here?” He asked cautiously.
“What are you doing here?”
“I asked first.”
“Like I give a shit.”
“Alright fine, I’m here with my family, to meet Lucy.”
“How do you know her?”
“Lucy’s dad and my dad are pretty good friends so we come here often. Your turn.”
“Lucy’s my first cousin.”
“Wait, seriously?"
"Yeah, she's pretty much my baby sister. How come I’ve never heard of you?”
“I don’t know.” He shrugged.
“You know Lucy well?”
“Yeah, we’re pretty close.”
“Well than she should’ve mentioned you somehow.”
“I kinda told her I was a spy.”
“Jake, she’s fourteen. Not four.”
“Yeah, but I told her that when she was four so she believed me. I’m happy she still keeps the promise of not talking about me with anyone.”
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah. We just have a thing. And when she got a bit older, we decided to just keep our friendship between ourselves."
“Alright, I guess I have to show you around.”
“Yup. Your grandma told me to stay in this room until ‘a girl’ would come and introduce me to the others. Supposedly my family agreed to that.”
I laughed.
“That’s my grandma to you. Anyway, come on.”
He got up and we headed out. Here goes nothing.
I took him around the first floor, introducing him to most of the family and showing him random rooms.
I couldn’t see my dad or my brothers. Maybe they would be upstairs in Lucy’s room.
I walked upstairs, with Jake following quietly.
“This floor was for only my family and Lucy’s. Grandma didn’t convert our rooms to anything else cuz we come here a lot.” I told him when I showed the first room on the floor, Matt’s.
“Why didn’t you come in the summer?”
“I’m not really sure. Just didn't get the chance to.” I replied when I showed him Jeremy’s room.
After Dad’s, Mark’s, and Uncle Tuck and Aunt Sara’s room, we reached in front of a peachish pink painted door. That was Lucy’s favorite color since she was able to choose one.
“This is your room?” Jake asked.
“Yeah. Me and Lucy’s.”
I took a deep breath and opened the door.
“Yay! They hooked up!” Juicy said from her bed. Her hair was shorter than before so she looked as if she had a pixie cut.
I felt a blush creep up, “We’re not together.”
“Melissa!” Aunt Sara got off the bean bag, ignoring what just happened, and hugged me tight.
“Hi Jake.” She smiled and he nodded.
