"So do you remember the story?" Damon asks me for the hundredth time.I roll my eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. "For the hundredth time, yes, Damon. I remember the story."
We were standing outside the Forbes house. It's a cute little suburban house painted white with a black roof.
I was about to ring the doorbell when Damon stopped me, insisting that we go over our cover story.
"Fine, you can ring the bell now," he says.
"Thanks for your permission," I huff, pushing past him and pressing the doorbell.
"Coming," a female voice calls out. The door opens and we're greeted by a middle-aged blonde wearing a police uniform.
"Hi, Damon. Hi, Elena. What can I do for you?" she asks with a smile.
"Actually, I'm Gabriella Vega," I correct her. "Linda and Marcus Vega's daughter."
"Oh, wow. You just look a lot like-"
"Elena Gilbert?" I suggest with a smile and she nods. "Yeah, we're twins."
"Really?" she asks, shocked. "I'd love to hear more. Both of you come in."
Damon grabs my suitcase for me and we follow Liz inside the house.
"Make yourself at home, Gabriella," Liz insists with a smile. "I'll show you-"
She interrupted by her cell phone ringing. "Excuse me. I have to take this." She walks out of the living room and down the hallway, leaving me and Damon alone.
He flops down on the couch, making himself comfortable.
"Really?" I give him an 'are you serious' look.
"What?" he smiles at me. "She said make yourself at home."
"I'm pretty sure she was talking to me."
He shrugs as Liz walks back into the room.
"I'm so sorry, Gabriella, but I have to go back to the station. I won't get back home until pretty late, but I think Caroline will be home soon and she can make you guys dinner and show you your room."
"It's okay, Liz. I'll be fine," I assure her with a smile.
"Are you sure because-"
Damon interrupts her. "She'll be fine, Liz," he says, standing up and walking over to me. "Gabby can just hang out with me. I'll take her to the Grill to get something to eat and have her home before 10."
"Oh, thank you, Damon," she says, looking relieved. "I owe you."
"It's my pleasure," he says, wrapping an arm around my shoulders. "Gabby here is a regular little Miss Sunshine."
I snort and I try to hide it by agreeing with Damon. "Yeah, right. He's totally right."
Liz smiles at us. "Okay, well have fun you two."
"We will," we say in unison as she walks out the door.
"Little Miss Sunshine?" I question as soon as Liz is gone.
"I couldn't have her thinking she was leaving me with a total pain in the ass, now could I?" he smirks at me and I slap his arm.
"Ow," he pouts, rubbing his arm.
"I guess I'm not the only source of pain around here," I say with a smug smile.

"So is this where everyone in town hangs out?" I ask Damon as we walk inside the Mystic Grill. We take our jackets off and hang them on a coat stand.
