"Elena, call 911!" I command as I run over to John and grab a rag, pressing it to his wound.
My sister follows my orders and I try to keep our biological father alive. "Hi, I need an ambulance to 2104 street," she says into the phone.
I focus my attention on John, but I realize that he's looking past us. "Behind you," he pants, confusing us.
"What?" I ask, making sure I heard him right.
"Behind you!" he repeats, louder.
We quickly turn around, but no one is there and Elena and I share a look.
"I think whoever did this is still in the house," I whisper and she nods in agreement.
"I'm going to go check," she tells me quietly, grabbing the knife the person stabbed John with off the floor and heading back into the hallway.
I don't approve of letting her go off by herself, but I don't put up an arguement and keep applying pressure to John's wound as I pick up where Elena left off with the ambulance.
Suddenly I hear Elena scream. "Jeremy!"
I quickly stand up and tell John to hold the rag until I get back before I run upstairs to see what's wrong.
We'll never get a peaceful day in this town.
*********
The ambulance are wheeling John out when Stefan appears at the front door. He starts to walk inside, but a police officer tries to stop him.
"He's okay," Elena and I call out in unison from the top of the staircase.
The officer nods, letting Stefan come in and the three of us head upstairs.
"What happened?" Stefan infers as we walk into Jeremy's room.
"He said that Anna gave him blood and he took these pills," I explain.
"And, now, he looks fine, but then again so do you, so I don't know," Elena rambles and I rub her shoulder to try to calm her down.
"Come here," Stefan urges Jeremy, grabbing his face in his hands. "Look at me."
Jeremy tries to pull away from him. "No, I'm fine, okay?" he assures. "I feel exactly the same."
"Should we call a paramedic up here? What should we do?" Elena continues to worry and I restrain myself from shaking her shoulders and yelling at her to calm down.
I understand that she's worried about our brother, but right now nothing is wrong with him and something is actually wrong with Caroline and I really want to go see her in the hospital.
"No," Stefan tells her as he continues to examine Jeremy. "He's fine."
"So you mean I'm not a vampire?" Jeremy asks and I notice the hint of disappointment in his voice. "Damn it."
That last comment triggers something in Elena and her worry transforms to anger. "Don't say that," she snaps. "Jeremy--Jeremy, why would you want that?"
"Did you hear about Anna? What happened to her tonight?" he responds, also somewhat angry as he stands up and looks us in our eyes. "She's dead."
"Oh no," I say softly, my heart going out for our baby brother.
Stefan suddenly steps forward, making Jeremy sit back down on the bed. "Jeremy, Jeremy, come here, sit down," he orders, holding his face tightly in his hands. "I'm very sorry about Anna. But it's very important that you listen to me right now. With every passing moment, Anna's blood is leaving your system. If you tried to kill yourself right now, you could really die."
