"Liz!"

"Mom!"

"I'm sorry girls, but you guys looked so cute," she says before taking another picture of us, the flash making us groan and shield our eyes.

It's Thursday, which also happens to be Christmas Eve and Caroline and I are sitting on the floor in the living room, decked out in the Christmas pajamas we never changed out of from this morning as we wrap the rest of our presents.

The mall was crazy packed yesterday when Stefan and I went and I'm surprised we made it out alive, but I did help Stefan find a present for Elena, so it was worth it.

"Liz, you promised you would stay in your room until we said we done," I remind her as we gather all the wrapped and unwrapped presents together, so Liz doesn't see them.

"I know, but I had to tell you guys that you need to start getting ready or we're going to be late for church."

"Ugh, do we have to go?" Caroline whines.

"Caroline, we go every year. We're not about to stop now," Liz answers, grabbing her purse and getting her stuff together. "Plus how would it look if the sheriff and her family didn't show up?"

"Family?" I repeat as I realize that Liz meant me too. "You consider me family?"

"Of course, sweetheart," Liz says as Caroline says, "Duh."

"You live here now, which makes you a Forbes even if it's not by blood or law," Liz continues.

"Yeah and you've seen me when I wake up in the morning, which is pretty much my worst state," Caroline adds. "You're definately family now."

I laugh as I lean over to hug Caroline and Liz bends down to hug both of us. "Thanks guys. I thought it was going to be really hard for me to be away from my family during the holidays, but knowing that I have another family here is really comforting."

"You'll always have family here," Liz assures me and Caroline nods in agreement. "And as much as I love spending time with my girls, I have to meet with the Council before the service, so I want both of you to get ready and meet me at the church. I'll save some seats for you in the first pew, okay?"

"Okay," I nod, smiling up at Liz as she kisses the top of my head.

"Okay," Caroline sighs, still upset about going to church as her mother kisses the top of her head too.

After Liz leaves, Caroline and I finish wrapping the rest of the gifts before getting ready.

I opt for a burgundy dress, sheer black stockings, and black pumps, wearing my hair in a half up and half down style, while Caroline wears a green dress that I told her she'd look good in, no stockings (I told her she'd regret that), and sparkly pumps.
