I found my seat just as Todoroki iced half the stadium.

Literally.

A pillar of white-blue frost erupted from the arena floor, spreading like an avalanche. The crowd screamed—not in fear, but in awe. The kind of awe that punches you in the lungs and leaves your hands shaking.

Midoriya didn't flinch.

Of course he didn't He tore through that wall of ice like it was cardboard. His body glowed green and crackled with energy—One for All lighting up every bone, muscle, nerve. Each step forward looked like it hurt. Each punch cracked the air.

But he didn't stop.

"Midoriya's crazy," Mina whispered next to me, her eyes wide. "Like, beautifully, chaotically crazy."

"Yeah," I said softly, watching as he launched another full-power punch to redirect an incoming ice spike. "But Todoroki's holding back."

Mina looked at me. "You can tell?"

I nodded. "He's only using his right side."

Todoroki's fire side remained cold—ironically. It wasn't even flickering. He was still doing that thing he always did—trying to win without using all of himself. Trying to make some kind of point. I didn't know the full story, but I'd heard enough whispers. Endeavor. Family issues. Scars, physical and emotional.

We all carried something.

The arena shook again, this time from Midoriya leaping into the air, bones snapping visibly as his Quirk overloaded another limb. And yet—he still kept going.

I frowned. "He's going to destroy his body."

"I think that's the plan," said a voice behind us

Kirishima had appeared, arms crossed, looking grim. "He's trying to make Todoroki use his left side. Trying to make him accept it."

"You make it sound like a therapy session," I muttered. He chuckled. "With fists." The next five minutes were chaos.

Ice. Lightning. Explosions. Wind pressure so strong it created shockwaves in the stands. People were on their feet. Pro heroes were leaning forward. And I—despite everything I'd been through—felt small again.

These two weren't just strong. They were resolute.

Midoriya wasn't just pushing Todoroki physically. He was challenging him emotionally. Forcing him to confront himself in the middle of a battle. That was wild. That was... something I didn't know if I could do.

It was easy to pretend you had control when your Quirk obeyed. But what about when it didn't?

My thoughts were interrupted when Todoroki finally screamed—and the fire erupted. Hot. Violent. Untamed.

The stadium practically exploded with heat and applause. Half the arena now shimmered with flames, the other half frozen solid. It looked like a battleground between two gods. And standing in the middle of it all—

Midoriya.

Smiling. Even with shattered arms and bruised ribs. And then— BOOM.

The clash knocked both of them out of the ring. Cement cracked. Metal supports bent. Dust swallowed the arena.

When it cleared, Recovery Girl was already moving in. Present Mic was shouting about the match being over. Midnight waved her whip and declared Todoroki the winner.

But the real victory? That belonged to both of them.

I sat back in my seat, my hands still clenched into fists. My mind wouldn't stop racing. Todoroki had finally accepted his fire. Midoriya had pushed someone past their limits—and destroyed himself in the process. And me? I'd survived one battle by hiding under the ground. Clever? Maybe. But now it felt small. Like a cheat. Like I hadn't earned my win the way they had.

"What are you thinking about?" Mina asked gently.

I took a breath. "That I need to train harder. Fight smarter. Not just survive—compete."

She bumped her shoulder into mine. "You're already doing that. And besides, you've got the semi-finals next. Don't waste your mental spiral before you even know who you're up against."

"Right," I said, exhaling. "Good point." As the stadium crew began repairing the cracked arena, Midnight stepped forward to the mic again, dramatic as always.

"After a short break to repair the field, we will reveal our semifinal matchups!" The crowd cheered again. I swallowed, nerves tightening in my stomach like coiled wire.

Who was I going to face? Kirishima? Durable and relentless. Tokoyami? Strategist. Shadow monster. Ashido? Unpredictable and faster than she looked. Or...

Bakugou.

I glanced across the stadium where he stood, arms crossed, eyes still locked on the smoke-covered arena, his usual scowl sharpened into something unreadable.

I had a bad feeling I knew who my next opponent would be.

After a short break and cleanup, Midnight strutted into the center of the ring again, whip cracking for dramatic flair. "Thank you for your patience, ladies and gentlemen! Now that the stage is ready, it's time for our semifinal matchups!"

A hush fell over the crowd as the giant screen lit up with the tournament bracket. My heart started pounding again. Midnight's voice rang out: "The first semifinal match will be... Kimi Akio versus Katsuki Bakugou!"

Of course.

Of course it was him.

I heard the chair creak beside me as Mina sat straight up. "Wha—what?! You're up against Bakugou?!" I stared at the screen.

Bakugou had taken down every opponent so far with explosive, merciless precision. He didn't hesitate. He didn't hold back. And he wasn't going to treat me like I was special.

My stomach twisted, but I didn't flinch. Not this time. "You okay?" Mina asked, reaching out like she wasn't sure if she should touch me.

I nodded slowly. "Yeah. I'm fine." And I was. Not confident. Not fearless. But calm. Because if I had to face someone like Bakugou to prove I belonged here—so be it.

I didn't come to U.A. to hide. I came to grow.

Even if it meant being burned along the way.
