My body felt like it had been through a meat grinder. IV fluids pumped slowly into my arm. Every breath was a gamble between pain and grit. But the screen above my bed kept my focus sharp: Final Match: Kimi Akio vs. Shoto Todoroki
This was the moment I'd trained for, suffered for, fought for. Not just to prove myself. To claim my place. To show I wasn't just a Quirk cocktail—I was a storm wrapped in skin. A force. Todoroki was powerful. Cold precision and raw fire. A prodigy who hadn't even used his full strength in most fights. But he wasn't the only one saving something.
I stepped into the light. Roaring. Flashing signs. Students from every class shouting our names. Todoroki stood across the battlefield, calm as always. Steam curled faintly from his left side, frost shimmered around his right hand. We locked eyes.
"Akio," he said evenly, "your fight with Bakugou... that wasn't luck."
"I don't do luck," I replied, tightening the glove over my right hand. "I do storms." His lips twitched slightly. Almost a smile. Midnight raised her hand. "Final match. No killing moves. Fight until one yields or drops. Understood?"
We both nodded. Present Mic's voice ripped through the sky. "ARE YOU READY?! THIS IS IT—THE FINAL ROUND! KIMI AKIO VS. SHOTO TODOROKI!" The crowd roared.
And with one crack of midnight's whip, she yelled, "BEGIN!"
Todoroki struck first. A flash-freeze wave burst from his foot, covering half the arena in jagged blue ice in seconds. I didn't run.
Instead I slammed my foot into the ground and Terraported—vanishing in a blink of dust, reappearing behind a raised outcrop of scorched stone. His ice turned, adjusting unnaturally.
He was tracking me by the temperature I left behind. Smart. I crouched, hands spreading wide across the ground. The scorched rubble around me crackled—burnt matter twisting and reshaping into a blackened maw of spiked terrain. Twisted earth born of flame.
Todoroki didn't hesitate. He surged forward, fire blasting from his left arm in a spiral to melt the path ahead. But I was already gone. A burst of spiraling updraft launched me over him like a cyclone-driven arrow.
He turned—and I saw a flicker of surprise as I twisted midair into a spread-kick and let loose a wave of sand and plasma heat. The sand flash-glassed in midair, shattering across his shoulder like thousands of razor crystals.
He skidded back. "You've leveled up," he said. I landed, panting. "You have no idea."
Todoroki exhaled deeply. Then he unleashed both sides. A spiraling twister of ice and fire erupted from him, carving deep trenches into the battlefield. Steam billowed into the sky, obscuring his position.
I knew this attack. He was trying to corner me in the heat and freeze the vapor around me—turn air into a cage. But I wasn't fighting with just elements now. I was fighting with understanding.
I dropped to one knee and whispered "Lend me breath." And the air obeyed. I vanished into a mist form—Air Mimicry. The steam couldn't hold me. I passed through the cage, reforming in a crouch at Todoroki's flank.
He sensed it too late.My palm lit up with a spiraling ball of compressed sacred wind and sand—Divine Wind Manipulation + Sacred Earth. I slammed it into the ground.
BOOM!
A concussive sandstorm exploded, laced with glowing particles. Blinding. Piercing. A holy gale wrapped in ancient earth. Todoroki was flung back, trailing sparks and frost shards.
We both stood—shaking, burned, half-frozen. He wiped blood from his mouth. "I didn't want to use this." I knew what he meant.
"Your fire?" I asked. He shook his head. "No. My father's vision."
