Smoke curled from the broken arena. The ground had been ripped apart—charred, cracked, and reshaped into an unrecognizable battlefield of ridges, trenches, and steaming craters. And in the center of it, Katsuki Bakugou grinned like a wolf who smelled blood.
"You're tougher than I thought, Akio," he spat, flexing burned knuckles. "But I'm done playin'."
I rose from a crouch across the field, arms trembling, wind stirring faintly around me. Blood dripped from a cut above my eyebrow, and my chest ached with every breath. But I didn't move back. "I haven't even started," I said.
He narrowed his eyes.
"BEGIN AGAIN!" Present Mic roared. "THIS FIGHT ISN'T OVER UNTIL ONE OF THEM DROPS!" The crowd was screaming. The world shrunk down to just him and me. And the elements.
I closed my eyes, just for a second. Felt the wind across my shoulders. The tremble of the ground below. The dry crackle of burned earth around us.A nd the faintest, distant trace of moisture in the air, clinging like breath to a cold window.
I opened my eyes. "Let's finish this."
Bakugou rushed me like a meteor, explosions cracking behind him, propelling him into a low arc across the broken battlefield. I dove sideways, rolled across jagged stone, and slammed my palm down. Terrakinesis.
A wall of compacted earth rose up behind me just in time to catch the next blast. He hit it with a shout, detonating the top half—but I was already moving again, riding a rising pillar of stone to high ground. He leapt from the dust and followed, his gauntlet cocked. "TAKE THIS!"
I dropped my wall and extended my hand behind me— The blast hit, but the wind I'd prepared cushioned me, and I used it to slide sideways off the pillar, catching a ledge with one hand and landing in a crouch behind a chunk of broken platform.
His eyes tracked me. His breathing was heavier now. Controlled, but strained. "You're dodging too much!" he barked. "What's the matter? Run outta earth tricks?"
I smirked. "Not even close." The platform beneath him shuddered. He looked down just as it cracked open—my buried trap finally triggered.
A cage of crystal spikes surged up from the ground, aiming to trap him in a sudden prism of Crystallokinesis. He detonated one of the walls before it closed completely, staggering back, but a few shards caught his legs, slicing his thigh.
His eyes widened—then narrowed. "Tch. You're not just fast—you're reading me."
"I've been watching you since day one, Bakugou," I said. "You're not the only one who analyzes."
He grinned. "Good. Makes beating you worth it." His next blast came fast—an unloaded gauntlet shot straight at my center.
I dropped and shaped a shield just in time. The explosion shattered it—and hurled me backward across the field. Pain lanced through my side. I coughed dust and maybe blood. Vision blurred. He was on me before I could rise—ready to finish it. But I didn't try to stand. I reached down. And I pulled the wind into my lungs. I spun on my back, hands flung wide—A slicing sandstorm exploded around us. Tiny glasslike shards, shaped by heat and wind, kicked up into a blinding cyclone. Bakugou howled, covering his eyes, stumbling back.
"AGGHH—DAMN IT—WHAT IS THIS?!" I rose slowly from the center of the storm.
Face bloodied. Arms coated in ash. Eyes glowing faintly from the elemental energy rushing through me. "This is my Quirk," I said. "All of it."
I shaped the cyclone into a spiral funnel and launched it like a whip, knocking Bakugou clean across the battlefield. He slammed into the wall and dropped to a knee, coughing, staggering to rise. But he wasn't done.
"You think... wind's gonna stop me?" he rasped, standing fully now, teeth gritted. "I'm not done. I'll NEVER be done!" His gauntlets clicked. And this time—they didn't just flash. They screamed.
He charged, roaring, flying at me in a zigzag path—exploding off every surface, trying to corner me in midair. I was running low. Energy fading. Every muscle burned. But I had one more move.
I closed my eyes again. Spoke to the sky. You listening yet?
And the sky answered.
Clouds gathered—faint at first, but visible now. The air turned sharp. Electric. Every hair on my arms rose. Uncontrolled. Dangerous. But just enough. A bolt of white-blue lightning cracked across the sky and hit the arena edge—not on Bakugou. Not on me. But close enough to stop the crowd cold.
I spread my arms and pulled wind, heat, and the faintest water vapor into a sphere in front of me—my elements, mixed at once. A glowing orb of raw force spun faster and faster between my palms. Bakugou blasted straight toward it. Right into my trap. He exploded forward. I threw the orb.
CRASH—BOOM—FSSHHH It didn't just hit him—it enveloped him.
The mix of wind, mist, heat, and pressure detonated midair, throwing him in a swirling cyclone of elemental force that slammed him straight into the arena wall.
He hit, hard. And didn't get back up.
I staggered forward. Knees trembling. Vision fading. And then I heard it— "BAKUGOU IS DOWN! HE'S NOT MOVING! THE WINNER IS—KIMI AKIO!!"
The stadium exploded with cheers. I dropped to one knee, gasping, sweat and soot dripping from my skin. Across the way, Bakugou was conscious, groaning, arms shaking. He looked up at me through bruised eyes. "...You got me," he muttered.
I smiled. "Told you I wasn't stalling." He laughed once—weak and wild—and fell back again.
Later – Recovery Room
My body ached like I'd been run over by a freight train. But when I opened my eyes, I saw it—on the monitor above the hospital bed.
Finals: Kimi Akio vs. Shoto Todoroki.
I stared. One more fight. One more mountain to climb. But I was ready. Because today, I'd earned more than victory. I'd earned respect.
And I'd proved, once and for all, that I belonged on that stage.
