The Tree

As I was quickly putting on some shorts and a shirt I was still unaware what I was about to do. I must be crazy, was it too late to go back and say I ain't coming? would it make things worse than they already are?

I shut the laptop screen and grabbed my navy blue converse from under my bed, then I opened the door very quietly and shut it behind me. I crept down the stairs and walked to the door, then I realized if my parents heard the door open and close they'll freak and would for sure think someone was breaking in. The door was definitely not a way out. I looked at one of the windows in the living room, good enough I thought. The window slid open without a noise and I gently placed one foot out.

I felt the fresh grass touch my bare foot, tickling my toes. 'Disgusting!' I thought as I stumbled carelessly out of the window and onto the grass.

''Shit I forgot to put socks on!'' I muttered to myself. I can't go back now I thought.

''Does it matter?'' said Harry standing in front of me shifting from one foot to another.

''Oh I didn't see you'' I said quietly as I proceeded to put my shoes on without socks.

''Why are you here anyway?'' I asked curiously.

''Thought we would hang out a bit, make it up for when I said we shouldn't be friends''

''Huh?'' I questioned thinking Harry might have gotten a hit in the head by a meteoroid.

''I just wanted to make it up to you'' he said blankly.

''I just snuck out of the house, after hours, what the hell is wrong with you!??'' I complained.

''Fine go back in then!'' he replied harshly turning his back to me about to walk back to his house.

''Wait! wait!'' I jumped up and grabbed his arm.

''What!?''

''So where are we gona go?'' I asked calmly gently placing both my hands in the pockets of my shorts.

He flashed a smile.

''Come on!'' he said grabbing my arm and walking quickly to the sidewalk.

I was now walking with Harry, the Harry, after hours, after I had just snuck out of the house. I must be in some crazy dream. Am I? I felt the fabric of my top. No I wasn't dreaming.

''So where are we going?'' I asked again.

''You'll see'' he answered.

''Please don't kill me!'' I said jokingly but also kind of scared, Harry wasn't a child and it was quite dark.

He burst out laughing.

''What?!'' he said still laughing his ass off.

''I... I ''

''I'm not gona do anything to hurt you stupid!'' he assured me.

A few minutes later we arrived at Harry's destination. We were at the park. The one we used to play in when we were kids. The place was empty rather than a few older kids sitting in a circle on the ground. They watched us as we walked past them, I could hear their chit chat and the music coming from one of their phone's. The place at night looked quite creepy, I was scared of dark, empty spaces like this and even though the stranger's stares and disco like music wasn't quite appealing it made me feel less creeped out by the whole thing. Harry took a turn and started walking next to the river.

''There!'' he said pointing to something.

I look up to see what it was. It was the old oak tree. I recognized it, nothing in the park was as beautiful as it was. I then flashed a stupid smile and no matter how much I tried it wouldn't go away.

''I haven't been here for ages'' I replied as we walked closer.

''Really?'' He questioned.

''Yeah, after you left I didn't really bother to come here alone so..''

''Oh''

''I'm still shocked it's still here actually'' I said with a slight giggle.

Harry gave out a little chuckle as he sat down under the tree.

I sat down next to him. Him being nice and all friendly with me made me feel a bit uncomfortable but I realized he was trying to not start an argument again so I went along.

I looked at the river in front of us. It was smaller than I had remembered, yet again so was the tree. I guess when you're a child everything around you looks giant, then u grow up and everything you always thought was massive was now just regular. I took a sharp breath as I stared quietly at the shiny glow the moon was leaving on the water, as I heard the water splash on the sides of the river when it hit stone or soil. I smiled to myself, then turned to face Harry only to find him already looking at me.

''This is pretty'' I said plainly.

He gave out a soft chuckle.

''I know'' he agreed.

This was nice I thought but yet again I was reminded about my constant overthinking.

''Why did you bring me here and why are you being nice?'' I blurted out coldly.

''Sorry...'' I continued quickly.

''It's fine. We got on the wrong foot, you're practically my childhood and I don't want to ruin our friendship. You're the closest friend I have here, I've ever had actually....''

Wow I thought. This was quite sudden. I'm the closest friend he's ever had...ever? No, no it can't be true, it just can't.

''I'm not lying'' he replied.

''Uhm.....''

''Your face says it all Taytay!'' he said.

''Don't call me that Hazza!'' I replied jokingly pushing his shoulder away.

Harry gave out a little chuckle.

''Eey come on, that doesn't give you the right to touch me!'' he yelped.

''What!?? you're silly!'' I laughed raffling my hand through his messy hair.

''Oh now you're just asking for it!!'' he said as he started tickling my stomach.

Tickling. A weakness of mine. I fell to the floor shrieking with the most embarrassing noises one could ever make. I started losing my breath and shortly after begging him to stop. When he did I just layed there on the grass, out of breath, still giggling.

''Whose silly now?!'' he teased as he was resting both arms on the ground looking down at me.

''Still you''' I answered as I examined his face, now that he was closer to me than he's ever been before.

''Yeah, right!'' he replied staring into my eyes.

Then everything fell silent, Harry was still inches away from me, he was staring in to my eyes, then they shifted down to my lips and I could swear his face was closer than ever. Something in my stomach took a sharp sudden breath. His breaths were heavier and his lips were a pale shade of red and in that moment I blanked. Could he? would he?....
