At the beach with Selena

‘’Hey sis!’’ Selena said with a smile giving me a small wave as I slowly aproached  her. She was sitting by the fountain at the park, it was our meeting place, right in the middle, both 5 minutes away from my house and 5 minutes away from hers.

She pulled me into a small hug, just for a second, this is what we did. We started walking to the beach, we stopped for ice-cream on the way, Selena was always up for a new taste, she picked vanilla and rasperry  and mixed the two, I chose strawberry, I always chose that, it was my favourite.

‘’So what are your plans for the summer?’’ I asked her as we sat on a patch of sand far enough away from the water but not too far away.

‘’Well, mostly dance class and the swimming classes, just like the one’s I went to last year.’’

‘’cool’’

‘’I’m really gonna miss you Tay’’ she sad with desperate eyes.

‘’Me too’’ I said. ‘’But don’t worry Sel, I mean your summer house is only 30 minutes away by car or bus, I could come there and you could visit me too, we always do this so I don’t think it should be any different this year, right?’’ I said with hopeful eyes.

‘’Yeah, I guess, the thing is I’m just so used to coming over or meeting you in minutes tops that I just feel awkward in the summer when I have to leave like an hour earlier just to see you’’ she shrugged.

‘’You don’t have to see me every single day Sel!’’ I said with a knowing smile.

‘’You know I asked my mum if I could stay with grandma for the summer’’ she took a few spoons of her ice-cream and continued. ‘’She got angry and said no’’.

‘’No doubt in my mind she’d say that!’’ I replied.

‘’I know, I just....does it really make such a big difference to her if my toothbrush is not next to her’s, I spend about 4 days a week at granny’s during the summer anyway, don’t know why she has to make it harder and drag me around all the time from house to house!’’ Selena complained.

‘’I understand Sel, I’m sor-‘’

‘’please don’t feel sorry for me Tay, it’s okay, granny need’s me anyway and I love that woman to death!’’ she interrupted me and did a little laugh at the end like a sign that she’s okay about the whole travelling from one place to another thing eventhough she was not. Selena changed the subject.

‘’so what are you planning to do this summer?’’ she asked with a smile, putting in a big spoonful of ice-cream into her mouth knowing she won’t have to talk for a few seconds.

‘I-‘’

Selena cut me off again, ‘’brain freeze’’ she put her hand and covered her mouth then pulled slightly on her hair.

I let out a laugh knowing she always did this.

‘’Oh fuck you Tay, you never get this!’’ she complained pushing my shoulder slightly.

‘’It’s because I know how to eat ice-cream the right way Sel’’ I smirked.

‘’Oh, I’m sorry ..... since when did you get a degree on eating ice-cream!’’
