The Truth

The beach was definitely crowded. Most people were drinking or already looked drunk. Some lay on the beach whilst others made out in corners pretending nobody could see them. I've learnt to become familiar of such a scene, though I would rather be inside my bed curled up with a good movie and some ice-cream. I got some cola in a beer cup and sat around with Tim, James and Selena. At least I wasn't third wheeling, though I would rather not be here with Tim. The voice in my head told me to cut it out again. I wish I could think of him but I can't. I can't think of him in that way, he's not good for me, we're just friends. My heart suddenly starts beating really fast and I feel myself blushing. I think of how silly I might look, sitting here with a perfectly nice guy, thinking of the one who doesn't want to be with me. I think of his dimpled smile again, his lips that I might never get to kiss, how if I had to go back to that very moment I wouldn't make it stop. I would play it on repeat over and over again until we're both tired of each other and become disinterested. Unfortunately at this very moment in time I'm still yearning and I wish in all my power to make it stop.

''Hey Tay.'' Said Selena.

''Yeah.'' I answered. Reality hit me in the head again.

''We're going to go dance a bit.'' She explained.

''Okay.'' I answered blankly starring at her.

James and Selena left, I was now alone with Tim. We small talked for a couple of minutes until someone from the crowd recognized him and came over to us. A tall girl, about our age, she had the most beautiful shiny brunette locks I had ever seen. Her hazel eyes seemed to shine as they set on the boy next to me. She smiled, then politely asked if we wanted to join her and her friends up the beach. Tim told her we would think about it and she left.

''You should go.'' I suggested once she was out of sight.

''No, it's fine.'' He replied with a smile.

''No you really should. I think you're wasting your time, here, with me.'' I explained nervously.

''Why's that?'' he asked with a look of surprise and confusion.

''I just, I don't like you in that sense.'' I explained truthfully cutting the chord.

He simply nodded.

''I like you as a person. I just don't have feelings for you, which sucks because you're really nice but, you should be with someone who is actually interested.'' I explained anxiously.

''I get it. I kind of got the hint last time but I wanted to make sure.''

I nodded.

''I'm sorry.'' I admitted.

''It's not your fault.'' He replied.

Tim sat up and rubbed the sand off of him. I did the same.

''Let me walk you to your friends.'' He stated.

''Oh no, don't, I'm good here.'' I explained.

''All alone?'' he asked.

''I really need some quite time away from my friends at the moment.''

''Okay. I'll leave you to it then.'' He said, giving me a hug before leaving.

I sat back down on the cold sand. Looking at the open water, I sighed, but in my heart I knew I did the right thing. I took my shoes of and dug my toe nails into the soft sand. I lay down and looked up at the stars absorbing the serenity and finally the peace, but such moment didn't last very long as my phone started to ring. It was my mum.

''Hey mum.'' I answered.

She said hello and asked me if I was having fun.

''Loads.'' I replied.
