Once, there were two little girls,
Who met on a picnic near a river.
It was a hot day and the river
Looked tempting to swim in.
So they jumped right in.
But the current was too strong
And powerful for the little girls,
Who were only strangers
On that warm summers day,
And so, they were swept away.
Dirty water rushed into their ears,
Eyes,
Nose and
Mouth and they found,
They couldn't breathe.
They clung to each other as they were pulled
Deeper and deeper down, tumbling
Over and over, suspended
In the water.
Suddenly, a great shadow
Swam down to grab them,
And the shadow pulled them up to the surface where
They could open their
Eyes, clear their
Noses, empty their
Ears and
Breathe.
The shadow had been
A boy who one of the little girls knew
For he was her brother.
The other little girl,
Once she was back on the bank,
Ran over to her parents, crying, frightened.
Her parents picked her up and hugged her tightly,
Thankful she was safe.
The three went back over to thank
The rescuer and the little girls exchanged
Small smiles, the adventure bringing
Them together.
"I'm Lauren," said one, coming out from behind her brother's shadow to meet the other.
"I'm Chloe," the other said,
And that was all they needed
To know they were going to be
Best friends.
