Author’s Note 💌

This story was a request from my lovely reader. Thank you so much for trusting me with this idea! 💛
I truly hope I captured it at least somewhat the way you imagined.
I'm really sorry it took me a while to finish...life got in the way.

~

Speaking in front of people has never been your thing. Even back in school, you always felt like your voice was never loud enough. Every time you stood in front of the class, your heart would suddenly get so loud that you could barely hear your own thoughts. You’d stutter, lose your train of thought, or not manage to say anything at all. And every time, it felt like someone was silently judging you for it, like being quiet somehow made you worth less.

Now you’re older. But nothing has really changed.

Yesterday, when you found out you’d have to give a presentation as part of your university course, in front of more than a hundred people, everything inside you collapsed.

“I can’t do it,” you said.

And now here you are, sitting on the couch in the living room, while your five favorite people stand in front of you, simply looking at you.
Not with pity. But with full attention.

“Okay,” Liam says gently, leaning forward. “Then we’ll do it together.”

You’re the little sister of one of the boys and somehow, you’ve grown up with all of them. It was always loud around them, wild and full of life. But even in the noise, you never felt out of place.
They’ve always protected you.
And this time is no different.

The next day, Louis shows up at your door.
He’s holding a piece of cardboard with colorful letters that say: Mission: Let’s kill the fear.

“Alright, we’re starting today,” he says with a grin. “I’m your test audience. You talk, I listen. And if you want, I’ll go first with the worst presentation ever given.”

And he actually does it.
He stands in the middle of your room, rambling on about a completely made-up PowerPoint presentation… on toast. With a ridiculously dramatic British accent. Total nonsense.

But that’s exactly why you laugh.
You relax.

And when it’s your turn, it’s not perfect. You stutter. You pause.
But Louis just says, “You were brilliant. And you know what? Even if you get up there and say ‘Hi, I’m Y/N’ and then walk off....I’d still be proud.”

On the second day, Zayn comes by.
He brings tea, a soft blanket, and quiet music.
No pressure. No structure. Just you and him sitting on the floor.

“Want to just talk me through it?” he asks calmly. “No notes. No pressure. Just the basics.”

You nod.
And you speak.

Not perfectly. But honestly.
And Zayn doesn’t interrupt you once.

When you finish, he looks at you and simply says,
“I like your voice. It’s real. And you only speak when you actually have something to say. That makes you special.”

On the third day, Harry surprises you with a candle — vanilla and cinnamon.

“Every stage needs the right vibe,” he says with a soft smile.
Then he sits down on the floor, legs crossed, and adds,
“I’ll be your chillest audience. Start whenever you feel ready.”

You begin reading the opening of your presentation. Your voice shakes. You stumble.

Harry stands up, walks over, and gently takes your hand.

“Do you know how many people talk all day and say nothing?” he asks. “Then there’s you. And every word you say carries weight. Even when it’s quiet.”

On the fourth day, Niall shows up — with an entire bag of chips.

“And I have a plan,” he says. “For every minute you get through, you earn a snack. Deal?”

You laugh.
“You’re bribing me?”

“I’m motivating you,” he grins. Then his face softens.
“I know you’re scared. But I also see how brave you are for doing it anyway.”

You practice the first part of your speech. And every time you get through a section, Niall claps like crazy.
Not because it was perfect but because you tried.

That evening, you’re all sitting on the porch. The sky is painted in soft pink, and the air smells like summer.

“I’m scared,” you admit quietly. “I feel like I’m either too much… or not enough.”

Liam puts his arm around you.
“You’re exactly right the way you are,” he says. “And you’re going to stand up there.”

Then comes the day of the presentation.

Your hands are trembling.
Your heart is racing.

You walk onto the stage and just before you pick up the microphone, you glance toward the back of the hall.

And there they are. All five of them.
Standing outside the windows.
In the back row.

Holding signs:

WE BELIEVE IN YOU
YOU GOT THIS
PROUD OF YOU ALWAYS

And you breathe in.
And you begin to speak.
