"I honestly don't understand you."
Nightmare pinched his nasal.
Cross hummed. They were in one of the many living rooms of the castle. No one but them were home.
"Everytime I try to give you the slightest bit of attention you shove me away. Isn't this what you want?"

They sat on separate velvet couches. Cross didn't seem to care much.
"Because you don't mean it."
He had an arm propped on the armrest of the couch, laying his head on his hand, staring at Nightmare.
"Regardless. You only do it when its most convenient for you."

Nightmare scoffed.
"Sure."

"You're not disagreeing."

"Whether I agree or not wouldn't change your view on this."

Cross frowned.
"Yes because things haven't been right between us for awhile. I've come to accept that."

Nightmare snarled.
"Accept what? You being-"

"Did you know that I loved you."
Cross spoke over Nightmare.

Nightmare blinked. He furrowed his brows.

"I'm not talking about us fighting or sleeping together. I'm talking about love. Real love."
Cross mumbled. Tracing the zig-zag scar on his face.
"Not that i know what that is anymore.. but i remember trying to. Do you remember how we used to be? In the beginning?"

"Cross-"

"Did you ever feel loved by me. Nightmare?"

Nightmare hummed, he didn't answer.
Cross gave a nod.

"Then we had our son, and it wasn't the same anymore."
Nightmare's tendrils twitched at the mention. Their son was asleep, being no more than a year old.

Cross seemed to notice the change im the air.
"You really have a way of making things seem like an accident."
The monochrome shook his head.

"Yet I'm here. I would have thrown you both out if I didn't care for his well-being."
Nightmare growled.
Cross blinked. It was a harmless threat, the other had threatened him many times over. But it meant nothing.

"I suppose i should be grateful you're even in his life. You love him right?"
Cross asked. Nightmare gave a very slow nod.
"And me?"

Nightmare frowned. He didn't answer.
Cross sighed.
"You prove my point time and again Nightmare."

Nightmare could sense the growing negativity from the smaller. Knowing his lack of response was causing such emotions on Cross.

Cross snarled.
"Maybe its time you quit trying. Im not going to fall for this again. You used to say you 'loved' me and now you struggle to even say those words."
The guard up from the couch.
"I'm 'sorry' if I pushed you away. I just don't believe you."

Nightmare huffed.
"Pity.."

"Excuse me. I have to check on my son."
Cross said and left the area. Teleporting away.

Leaving Nightmare alone.
He just laid back on the couch.
"Pity indeed.."
