Cross stared at the rings on his desk. Two golden bands.
He just blankly stared at them. He wondered when Nightmare had entered his room to leave it.
Cross gave a low, dry chuckle.
'Seems our marriage is over..'
Oh well. Nightmare said what he said, and if he regretted their relationship then their marriage was over to begin with.
Funny because he was the one who asked Cross in the first place.
And the bed was colder these days, he'd have to adjust to that now.
He sighed and left his room, he wanted breakfast.
As he walked the corridors he couldnt help but think about everything that happened.
He never thought he'd get to this point.
All because of a ridiculous argument, there marriage ended over a few words.
Cross shook his head.
'No, they werent 'just' words.'
He turned the corner and bumped into the one monster he didnt want to see.
He backed up, a bead of sweat on his skull.
"Sorry, didn't mean too.."
Cross moved past Nightmare and continue on his way but the other stopped him.
"Cross, a moment."
The monochrome froze.
'Fuck! What now.'
He sighed and turned to face Nightmare.
"Yeah?"
Nightmare clenched his jaw, there so many things he had to say but he couldn't find the words.
But he needed to say something before he lost Cross forever.
Cross raised a brow.
"Do you need something boss?"
There it was, that same tone that reminded them both of their King and servant relationship.
Nightmare froze, he mentally scolded himself.
'Say something dammit!'
Cross felt awkward, Nightmare had yet to say anything.
"If you have no orders for me then..I'll get going."
Cross began to turn around, Nightmare panicked for a moment but he didnt apologize like he had wanted to, instead he grabbed Cross by the hand before he walked away.
"Boss-?"
Instead Nightmare said.
"I love you.."
The monochromes sockets widened. He scanned the others face, Nightmare almost looked desperate.
Cross could only offer the other a dry chuckle.
"Heh, no you don't.."
"Cross-"
Cross pulled his hand away from Nightmares grasp.
"If you loved me then it wouldn't have taken this long for you to talk to me."
Nightmare frowned.
"Im sorry. I really, really am Cross, for everything I said and did."
Cross stared at him, he sighed.
"Okay."
"What?"
"I said okay."
The guard crossed his arms.
"I have nothing else to say.."
Nightmare felt his jaw tighten. He reached out to the other again, holding him by his arms.
"I know i don't deserve it but please let's talk."
Cross however didnt look too convinced.
"Why should we? I'm a pest remember."
Nightmare clenched his jaw. Cross noticed the other had finally broke, in a desperate attempt, he grabbed Cross by the hand again and fell to his knees.
This took the other by surprise.
"Night-"
"Im sorry! I know it impossible to believe but im sorry Cross! I didnt mean it!"
Nightmare begged him.
"I love you, I promise! Don't leave me, we can still fix this!"
Cross felt his breath hitch. He snarled.
"How am I supposed to believe that when your the one who questioned our relationship!?"
The other could feel how angry and betrayed the other felt.
And it was his fault..
"It doesn't matter if you didnt mean it! You clearly THOUGHT about it before you yelled in my face you ASSHOLE!!"
Cross let his tears roll down his face.
"Clearly our marriage didnt matter to you so why are you regretting it now!?!"
Nightmare felt like shit. He was stressed out. How was he supposed to repair their relationship now?
"I love you so, so much Cross, you mean everything to me. You're the only one that matters to me in this place!"
Cross scoffed.
"Then why?"
"I wasnt thinking. I was just angry I didn't mean anything i said!"
Nightmare pulled the other closer, tightening his hold on his hand.
"I dont regret the day you said yes. I dont regret marrying you. I regret what I said! It was a stupid argument."
Cross frowned.
"You left your wedding ring with mine."
"I know.."
Nightmare sighed.
"Please I don't want this to be over, and i know you don't either. I'll fix this i promise!"
Cross turned away, covering his mouth to cover an oncoming sob.
"Cross.."
The monochrome huffed.
"I hate you..so much right now. You cant expect forgiveness after so long.."
Nightmare stood up, cupping the smallers cheeks.
"I hate myself too. You have no idea."
He pressed there foreheads together.
"Im not looking for your forgiveness, I know it'll be forever until you trust me again but i want my husband back.."
Cross couldnt take it anymore, he broke down. He hadnt cried since the argument, everything came crashing down.
Nightmare pulled the other in, Cross cried onto his shoulder.
"Y-You're an asshole! That really hurt!"
"I know button, im sorry."
Cross continued to sob. So many emotions hit him at once.
"You left me!- how could you d-do that..!"
Nightmare merely hugged him tighter.
He hated himself even more right now.
Cross never cried.
"You called me a pest like that's all I am to you! I fucking despise you for that!"
Cross muffled his cries into Nightmares shoulder.
Nightmare wasnt angry at the insults. He caused this.
"I'm sorry, i should've come to you sooner. I should've been there."
He pulled away to caress the guards face.
"I love you, that's not going to change. So please, give us a chance, you're my husband."
"Nightmare.."
"You're my husband, my lover and I cant lose you over this."
He wiped the smallers tears away.
"I married you because I loved you so please, come back to our bed."
Poor Cross leaned into Nightmares touch, he missed how gentle the others touch could be.
"Hm.."
Nightmare softened his gaze at the sight.
He leaned down, hesitating for a moment to see if Cross would pull away before he closed the gap between them.
It wasnt short but it was gentle and sweet. The monochrome could only feel his tears continue to slip, he didnt care to wipe them.
Once they pulled away Nightmare wrapped his arms around his lovers and pulled him closer.
Cross resting his head on his chest, his breathing had calmed for the most part.
"I love you Cross."
He nuzzled into the crook of his lovers neck.
"So fucking much, it weakens me.."
Cross hiccuped. He was still angry and upset. Rightfully so, but Nightmares right, he didnt want their marriage to end.
He wasnt going to forgive him that easily, his trust had nearly shattered. Both of them knew it'd be some time before he could regain that trust again.
Plus, Cross was sure the others would appreciate there conflict ending, it was suffocating for them too.
He buried himself onto Nightmares chest.
"Okay Nightmare.."
"Is that a yes..?"
Cross nodded. He mumbled out.
"The bed was getting colder anyways.."
Nightmare sighed in relief, pecking Cross's forehead.
"Yes it was.."
