"Knock, knock," Axel's voice called out gently. I snapped my neck up, hugging my knees further into my chest on the bed. He was already halfway into the room by the time he'd spoken.

"You're supposed to knock before you walk in. What if I was changing, or something?"

"Well, wouldn't that be my lucky day then?" He flirted, closing the door behind him. It's only him and I in this bedroom, wooden walls of the lodge surrounding us. My windows are clear of any curtains, moonlight peering through along with the snow drizzling across the mountains.

"You wish..." I mumbled, blushing at his words. "Shouldn't you be downstairs drinking and talking with everybody else?"

"You said you had to use the bathroom, but you never came back down. What if you'd drowned?"

"Drowned?"

"In the toilet."

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up." It just occurred to me that I didn't even end up peeing, since Austin and Cole's exchange alarmed and distracted me. I cleared my throat, trying not to think about that. There's a reason they haven't told anyone, so it's better to just keep my mouth shut about it.

"Really though. Are you okay?" Axel asked.

I sighed. I'm totally fine, but it is creeping into my mind that Axel doesn't want to go to Prom. I don't understand. It's our senior year of high school-- the last time there will ever be a formal event like this. But he's not interested at all? I get that it's not his sort of scene, but a small part of me wondered if he'd change his taste for me.

But that's absurd, truly. Not only would I be expecting way too much from him, but going to Prom together would also expose our relationship to our friends and family, which is way too risky. I gulped.

I don't know what's got my brain all scrambled. How am I even considering going public with our relationship?

Damn it, there is no relationship to begin with!

"I know..." Axel said to me. He took a seat on the bed by my feet. I rested my back against the head board, and he remained on the edge of the mattress. One of his hands travelled down to my bare foot, and he traced his fingers along my ankle.

"'You know' what?" I asked.

"It's annoying. Having to lie to everyone about us." Axel bit the inside of his cheek, as if he's been thinking about this too. I chewed on my lower lip, finding my breathing pace quicken at his lengthy fingers, grazing the skin on my foot. He rubbed his thumb on my toes, which made me frown in confusion. Also, I'm wondering why his hands on my body is arousing me, even though he's only pressing on my foot.

"It annoys you?" I asked with a whisper.

"Doesn't it annoy you? Jake's always up my ass about who I'm hooking up with. He constantly presses me for the details."

"Do you tell him?" I licked my lips. Axel's hand rubbed circles on my ankle, lifting up the hem of my pant leg and exposing my upper shin. He patted my freshly shaven skin, feeling my body as though it's his right.

"Do I tell him about you?" Axel asked, raising an eyebrow. "No. I don't. I don't tell anyone about the stuff we do."

I blushed, for some reason.
