A Baby For Kydd

Kydd dug her chucks into the dirt. As the swing swung back and forth. Bean was kicking her hard and she tried to soothe him by rubbing her belly.
She was waiting for Cobain to meet her.
She hadn't seen him since she broke up with him last month.

She glanced down at her phone. He had texted he was on his way.
But that was almost 30 minutes ago. She couldn't always trust his word lately.

Kydd thought about the events that unfolded only a few weeks ago.

They had just left her OB/GYN appointment.
It was for her 18 weeks check up. They had just found out that they were going to have a little boy.
As they drove back to his house she had gotten a craving for starburst and Big Red.

He pulled into a convenient store parking lot. She waited in the car. While he went inside to get the treats for her.

She had dropped her phone between the seat. She stuck her hand and tried to get it but instead of getting her phone she found a small bag of weed.

" Babe, I couldn't find the tropical starburst only the original fruit ones.."
Cobain said as he returned to the car.
" How could you lie to me? "
Cobain looked at Kydd with a troubled face.
" Babe I'm not lying. They didn't have the tropical starburst."

Kydd slapped him with the bag of weed.
" How could you bring the surround me and Bean? "
She didn't wait for him to answer. " Take me home now!! "
She shook as she shouted.

She cried hard as he drove to her house.
Before they got to her driveway.
" I don't want you around me or Bean. We are done Cobain! "

She wiped her tears before walking into the house she lied to her mom about the reason why she had broken up with Cobain. If she had told the truth she would never see Cobain again.

Kydd stood up as she saw Cobain pulling into the playground parking lot.
She pulled out the ultrasound picture from her doctors appointment this afternoon.

" He's getting so big! "
Cobain said after he saw the picture of Bean.
" Is he sucking his thumb? "
Kydd nodded.
He grabbed her hand. And tried to pull her close.
" Let go of me Cobain."
He let her go.
" I haven't smoked since you found the bag of weed in my car Kydd. I swear. "
Kydd looked down at her shoes.
" I have to go. "
She walked to her brothers car. Got in and drove off.

" You have to give him a chance Kydd.."
Gigi said as they took a seat in the McDonald's booth.
" If he's really trying to make an effort and he swears he's clean you have to give him a chance."
She said as she handed French fries to Bailey.
Kydd nibbled on her chicken nuggets.
" Look I understand completely, Im going through the same issue with my baby daddy. You gotta do what's best for you and Bean. But if he's trying Kydd you have to give him a chance."

Bit she had given him a chance way before they even found out about Bean.

That night she layed in bed.
Could she trust him again?
Cobain had broken her trust several times before so how could she trust him.
Was she willing to put Bean's life at risk?
She thought about what Gigi has had said during lunch.

She grabbed her phone and texted Cobain.

-- Cobain, can we meet up and talk?

She hit send and waited for his reply.

-- That's all I've ever wanted baby girl.

She read his text a few times before answering.

-- Okay how's tomorrow around 2 pm at the mall?

She hit send.
She wanted to go to the mall to pick up some stuff for Bean.

-- Okay I'll see you there.

She thought a second. What if Cobain didn't love her anymore? What if he only wanted to be there as a father to Bean and not a boyfriend to Kydd?
Before she could seriously think about it Her phone chimed.

-- Thank you, Good night I love you baby girl.

Her heart melted a bit.
She texted back..

-- I love you too

She put her phone on the charger.
And turned on her side.

" Listen Bean, I don't know if you can hear me. Or even understand me. But look I just want to give you the best possible life. I really do Love your daddy with all my heart. He means a lot to me. Just like you. And I'm scared to death of anything happen to you or him. That's why I have to do what's best for you. Even if it hurts me. "
