Naruto was lying on his back, still panting while Sasuke leaned against a tree, trying to catch his breath. They just have had an exhausting spar. They were the only ones that came today because Kakashi had a mission and Sakura was called for a surgery.
"Are you happy now, teme?" Naruto asked out of the blue.
Surprised at the sudden question, he just grunted a reply, "Hn."
"I mean, really, it's been two years since you came back. Something must've changed."
"It's not that easy, dobe." he argued
Naruto looked at him, "Why did you come back? I'm glad that you did, I really am, but I'm still curious."
The Uchiha never liked this topic; it opened wounds that he tried so hard to bandage. "You know the reason."
"That Itachi-cared-for-Konoha-so-I'll-do-the-same shit? Maybe you helped us on the war because of that but that's not enough reason for you to return considering how much you hated Konoha."
Sasuke's temper started to flare, "It's enough reason!", he spat rather coldly
Naruto's voice took a much softer tone, "Is it not because of Sakura-chan?"
His eyes widened a bit and his mouth hanged open, words escaping him.
"I see the way you looked at her then, you know. The way you always look at her." the blonde said with a hint of bitterness
Sasuke couldn't stop the words from escaping him, "You still love her."
"She's not the only one who can love someone this long. Just because you came back doesn't mean I can unlove her." he defended
"That wasn't what I-" Naruto cut him off
"Yeah. She still loves you, you know." the future hokage pointed out almost sadly
"That's imposs-" he didn't have the time to finish his retort because Naruto cut him off the second time that day, saying something that made his heart stop, unable to argue back knowing that he would be lying not only to his best friend but to himself, as well.
"And now you love her back."
