Chapter Five

Tell me how to feel like we did when we were young

Two hours later, E.J. and I were sitting on the floor of the living room watching some random talk show that Oliver was due to be on sometime that day. E.J. was sitting up, giggling as he played with his baby blocks. I smiled softly down at him, occasionally looking at the TV just in case Oliver showed up. He still had yet to say anything to me about last night, but then again... I hadn't said anything to him either.

"Now our next guest is probably the one you've all been waiting for. Today we have with us Oliver Malik and his fellow band member Dean Martin, both are from the rather popular band The Falling Apart. The band just released the first album a few weeks ago and their first single Tonight reached top charts within a day of it being released. Ladies and gentlemen, please help me in welcoming Oliver and Dean!" The host smiles off stage and the cameras point towards that direction. The crowd was cheering rather loudly as soon as Oliver and Dean walked out. They both smiled at the crowd, waving as they walked towards the stage. Oliver's smile was a little less vibrant which in turn made me feel like even more of a jerk. Oliver and Dean took their seats, still smiling as they look at the host.

"How are you boys today?" The host smile.

"We're great. Happy to be here." Dean answers and Oliver nods in agreement.

"You boys just got back from a small break, that must've been nice?"

"It was. Don't get us wrong... We love touring and getting to see our fans... but there really is no place like home." Oliver answers this time and E.J. looked over at the TV.

"Da!" E.J. screeches, surprising me a little. I almost burst into tears when I realized that E.J. had said his first official word...

"That's right... There's Daddy." I cooed, placing E.J. on my lap. He continued to point towards the TV, a bright smile on his face as he watches Oliver.

"What do you enjoy the most about being home?" The host asks, leaning back against the couch as every one waited for Oliver or Dean to answer.

"Spending time with my family. Sometimes they'll join me on tour, but honestly it's not the same as it is at home." Oliver answers with no hesitation whatsoever, his smile growing a little bigger as he talks.

"What's your family like? According to the fans, your parents are crazy." The host laughs along with the crowd. Oliver chuckles a little, shaking his head.

"They're not far off. My pa is absolutely nuts, has been for as long as I can remember. He used to chase me and my best friend Alex around with a gorilla mask on... He also had this rock collection, claimed them as his kids... Boulder was always in the garden with the hoes, he used to be so upset about that. My dad is a little more on the sane side, and I guess they balance each other out."

"Sounds like quite the childhood."

"It truly was... Alex kept me sane though, still does." Oliver chuckles, a fond expression on his face as he does so. I couldn't help but smile myself, maybe he wasn't as mad at me as I thought.

"Well we're glad you have Alex."

"I'm glad I have him too."

"Da!" E.J. squeals again, leaning closer to the TV. I just smiled, shaking my head as I kissed the top of his.

"Now, has there been any change in the dating life?" The host asks and I just rolled my eyes. This was the part that I never really cared for, Oliver didn't either.

"Still single, planning on staying that way for a while." Oliver answers, lying through his teeth.

"So there isn't anyone?"

"Nope. I like being single."

"Any particular reason as to why that is?" The host presses further, still smiling.

"I found the one when I was eighteen, but they broke my heart. I'm not ready to find someone else quite yet." Oliver says, lying with just a little bit truth to his statement. The interview continued for a little while, but E.J. and I weren't really watching anymore. Once they left, I turned off the TV and stood up from the floor.

"Da." E.J. looked around the apartment for Oliver, a pout forming on his face as he came up empty.

"Daddy isn't here bear. But we can call him..." I whispered, walking into the bedroom. I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and dialed Oliver's phone number. I placed it on speaker so E.J. could hear and Oliver picked up on the third ring.

"Hey." He says quietly, his voice tired and a little hoarse.

"Hey, I watched your interview."

"Was it good? I felt like I rambled about my parents for a little while." Oliver chuckles a little and I could just picture him shaking his head. E.J. was looking around the room frantically for Oliver, a frown on his face as he came up with nothing.

"You did great... Eli wants to say hi. Eli, say hi to Daddy." I held the phone closer to E.J. and he looked a little confused at first.

"Hi baby." Oliver says and E.J.'s face lights up again.

"Da? Da?" E.J. looks at that phone, reaching forward to grab it.

"Did... Did he just say Da?" Oliver asks, his voice cracking a little as he speaks.

"Yeah... He's been saying it since he saw you on the TV... He misses his daddy already."

"I miss him too... and you. I miss both of you." Oliver whispers and I bite my bottom lip.

"I miss you too... and I'm sorry about last night."

"I'm sorry too... I gotta go, so I'll call you guys again later tonight... Probably before E.J. goes to sleep. I love you, Alex." Oliver hangs up after that, not even giving me the chance to reply.

"I love you too." I whispered, letting out a small sigh before putting my phone back onto the nightstand. It was going to be a long couple of weeks.
