Chapter Fourteen

Now I know that I can't make you stay

But where's your heart?

"So.... Do they argue like this all the time, or is this just when people are around?" Chad asked me as we sat on the couch. We were both in the living room, listening to Oliver plea for Alex to open the door. I personally knew it wasn't going to work like that, my brother was stubborn as hell and got angry very easily.

Much like Mum.

"Well if they're anything like my parents, then this is how they always argue. A.J.'s a lot like our mum, so I think Olly is gonna end up begging a lot longer than he thinks he is." I said honestly, shrugging a little as I leaned further back on the couch. It was a bit irritating that A.J. was making such a big deal about this whole situation. So what if Oliver didn't tell him that Rayden showed up? It's not his job and he doesn't have to tell Alex everything.

"Are all of you like that?" Chad asks, his voice laced with humor. I'm sure if I wasn't blind, he would be smiling. I bet he had a wonderful smile...

"Like what?" I sighed, shifting my weight again as I tried to get comfortable. It wasn't as easy as I hoped.

"Stubborn as hell."

"Only on Tuesdays."

"But it's Saturday..." Chad says slowly, his voice still light. I wondered what his smile looked like...

"I guess Alex didn't get the memo then." I said quietly, smiling a little myself.

"You're not as stubborn as him."

"Depends on what I'm being stubborn about." I shrugged before letting out a sigh. It sounded like Oliver had finally convinced Alex to hear him out, but I wasn't really sure if that was a good thing. Their shouting was echoing through the house and felt rather bad for E.J as I figured he was with Alex. I didn't want E.J. to be thrown in the middle of that, so I came up with an idea.

"You up for a kidnapping?" I suddenly asked, standing up from the couch. I'm sure Chad was looking at me like I had lost my mind, but I didn't care.

"Who are we kidnapping? Not that I'm agreeing..."

"Eli shouldn't have to be in the middle of Alex and Oliver's fight. We can just take him outside while they get over their little argument."

"Okay... How exactly do you plan on getting the baby?"

"Easy, I'll just ask for him." I smiled brightly, hoping that I was at least looking in the right direction. Being blind wasn't easy, and I was more than positive I was facing the wall.

"Alright... If you think that'll work." Chad says slowly, hesitancy more than clear in his voice.

"Don't worry. My brother's got a weak spot for me. Now if you could kindly turn me in the right direction sir Chandler."

"My name's not Chandler..." Chad grumbles, making me roll my eyes.

"Okay my name is not Chandler, point me in the right direction." Chad chuckles softly at that before he grips my shoulders. Slowly he turns me just a little before letting go of me.

"Just walk straight and you should be fine." He says quietly and I nodded before slowly walking towards the sound of Alex and Oliver fighting. It didn't take long before I "accidentally" ran into one of them, and by the annoyed groan it was A.J.

"Jonah, what are you doing?" Alex asks, his voice tired and somewhat hoarse.

"Just looking for Eli. I want to go play with him by the lake. Would that be alright? Chad is going to be with me." A.J. lets out a sigh before he places a squirming E.J. in my arms. I refrained from doing a victory dance before slowly heading back towards the front room. I nearly ran into Chad this time, well actually I did but he grabbed both my arms before I did any damage. Chad didn't say anything though, linking his arm with mine before leading me out of the house. Once we were outside, I felt somewhat better. I wasn't one to be around conflict and I didn't like the fact that my nephew was stuck right in the middle of it.

"Let's just sit on the porch. I don't feel like going down to the water." Chad said, stopping on what I was assuming was the porch. He helped me sit down and he then he took E.J. from me.

"So... Tell me more about yourself Chandler." I said after a minute, leaning back a little against the porch steps.

"Well for one, my name's not Chandler. And two, there's not much to tell."

"How old are you?"

"I'm eighteen."

"Cool. I'm sixteen. What's your middle name?"

"David."

"Mine's Daniel. What's your favorite color?"

"The color of your eyes."

"And what color is that?"

"They're a very light green like leaves at the beginning of spring and you've got some blue in there that looks like the ocean almost. They're very beautiful." Chad's voice is soft as he speaks and I have wished more than anything that I could just see the way he looked when he smiled. I wanted to say that the color of his eyes were my favorite color... But the only color I truly knew was black.

"Are you flirting with me Chandler? Not that I'm complaining. I'm just not of legal age quite yet." I teased instead, masking how I truly felt with a joke much like I always did.

"My name's not Chandler." Chad groaned out yet again, making me grin.

"Yeah okay, and my name's Mary Poppins."
