Chapter Twelve

We are the new Americana

I must've fallen asleep at some point as I was woken up by the sound of someone walking through the front door of the cabin. I sat up a little more in the chair before standing up to turn on the lights. The sight before me was one I didn't think I would ever have to see with Oliver... but yet there he was with his arm slung over Chad's shoulders and his lip busted.

"What happened?" I asked quietly, walking over to help Chad take Oliver over to the chair. I scrunched up my nose as the smell of alcohol hit me. There was no doubt in my mind now that Oliver was completely wasted.

"Well he showed up at my hotel room, asked if I wanted to hit a club... We went to a club and the idiot decided to get f ucking wasted. He also decided it would be a grand idea to pick a fight. Your boyfriend is one of the most impulsive people I know, I swear to god." Chad said, shaking his head as he looks away from Oliver. I couldn't really think of what to say, feeling a little angry at Oliver.

"Thanks for bringing him back..." I finally said.

"I wasn't about to let him drive himself home, let alone stay at my place. Tracy would have his head on a plate if she caught him like this."

"I think he's gonna end up with his head on a plate either way..." I find myself saying, shaking my head a little as I looked at Oliver. He was completely passed out on the chair, soft snores coming from him as he slept.

"Serves him right for being a dumb nut. Do you mind if I just crash here? It's late and I don't particularly feel like driving back." Chad asks, putting his hands in his pockets as he looks at me.

"Yeah, you're gonna have to crash on the couch though. My brother is asleep in the guest room."

"That's fine. Do you need help getting him to your bedroom?"

"No... He's sleeping out here. I don't want him around E.J. when he's like that.." I said bitterly, glaring at Oliver now as he continued to sleep. The room fell quiet for a moment before I finally decided that I was going to go back to bed. I thanked Chad again and then walked back to the bedroom. E.J. was still fast asleep so I made sure to be quiet as I climbed into the bed.

When I woke up again, I felt like I didn't even go back to bed. I frowned when I realized that someone was asleep next. I glanced over to see that it was Oliver, his arms wrapped around my middle as he held me close. I shifted in the bed so that I could get a closer look at his lip, but the movement made my stomach start to lurch. I instantly felt the need to puke.

"Olly... Oliver let go." I managed to get out, pushing against Oliver's chest. Oliver grumbled before doing as I asked, turning onto his side as I ran towards the bathroom. I threw the door open before falling down in front of the toilet where I emptied my stomach from last nights dinner. I groaned after I finished, flushing the toilet before leaning against the wall with my knees pulled close to my chest. This had been the third day in row I had woken up feeling sick to my stomach, and it was getting ridiculous. I already had a sneaking suspicion as to what it was, but here I was ignoring the obvious and just praying that it wasn't true. There was a knock on the bathroom door before it slowly opened, revealing a rather disheveled Oliver who looked absolutely exhausted.

"Are you alright?" He asks quietly, his voice hoarse as he looks at me.

"I'm fine... I've just got a stomach ache is all... Nothing to worry about." I find myself saying, standing up off the bathroom floor.

"You've had a stomach ache all week..."

"It'll pass... Don't worry." I said, kissing his cheek softly before walking back to the bedroom. Oliver followed me there, grabbing my hand before I walked inside.

"I'm sorry for yesterday... I should've told you where I was going and I shouldn't have made you worry about me. It was stupid, and I'm sorry... It won't happen again." Oliver says quietly, looking at me sadly. I smiled softly at him, knowing that I really didn't have much reason to be angry with him.

"It's okay... I'm just happy that you're alright and got home safely. You need to thank Chad for that by the way, he dragged your sorry ass back from where ever the hell it was you went." Oliver smiled at that, his gaze going towards the living room where you could just barely make out where Chad was sleeping.

"I'll thank him by making breakfast or something... Can we go back to bed though? I feel like I haven't slept at all..."

"Yeah... Just be careful not to wake up E.J., he didn't go to bed until late last night." Oliver's smile faded for a second, replaced with an apologetic look.

"It won't happen again, you believe me when I say that right?" Oliver asks, biting his bottom lip as he continues to look at me. I just smiled at him, kissing his cheek again before we walked back into the room. He fell asleep almost as soon as we climbed back into the bed, but for some reason I couldn't.

Something didn't feel right, and I wasn't sure what.
