Chapter Twenty-Five

No I dont wanna be

The guy to see you go

"Are you sure you want to do this Alex? I understand if you don't..." Oliver says to me quietly as we waited backstage for one of Oliver's interviews. It was the first one since the photos got leaked and Tracy wanted us to go on together. Oliver was standing next to me as one of the crew members placed a small microphone on both of us. I was shaking a little, my social anxiety that I hadn't dealt with since I graduated high school coming back to bite me in the ass.

"I wanna do this Oliver. I'll be fine." I said back, biting down on my bottom lip as I silently wished for the shaking to stop. I wanted nothing more than to be back home with my little boy, planning the new baby room or something along those lines. I hadn't seen Eli for two days now, and it was driving me crazy... I missed him.

"Okay, I'll be right next to you so it shouldn't be too bad. You don't have to answer any questions you don't want to. Now they might ask questions about Eli and it's up to you if you want to answer those... I won't say anything about him unless you do first because I want it to be your choice." Oliver says, looking at me expectantly as soon as the crew members walked away. I could only nod, unsure of what to really say about that. I still had some hope that no one knew about Eli, that he was still just Oliver and I's little secret... but I knew that wasn't going to last very long, especially if we were going to take this "in stride" as Tray had put it.

"Alright..." I find myself saying, taking in a deep breath as Oliver grabbed my hand. Together we walked out on stage, Oliver's hand clasped tightly with mine as he waves towards the crowd. I looked down at my feet, feeling the intense urge to puke. Oliver didn't let go of my hand, even when we sat down on a small white couch that was in the middle of the stage. Across from us sat a woman who looked to be in her thirties, a nice looking smile on her face. I felt somewhat better as soon as we sat down, but that didn't mean I was letting go of Oliver's hand anytime soon.

"So Oliver, it's been almost a year since we last talked. How are you?" She asks as soon as the crowd quieted down. I knew I recognized this woman, she had interviewed Oliver about their album just last year... Roughly about two months before Eli was born.

"I'm great, happy to be back of course." Oliver answers the question, a bright smile on his face as he looks at the woman. Her smile grew larger, which I personally thought was impossible...

"I'm more than happy to have you back. You're always a pleasure to be around. Now with the pleasantries out of the way, I feel like this is something all of us here want to know... Who is this young man sitting next to you?" She asks, her gaze turning away from Oliver and towards me.

"This is my fiancee, Alex." Oliver says with no hesitation whatsoever. I looked towards him, a soft smile on my face as he gives my hand a gentle squeeze. That was the first time he'd actually called me his fiancee... and to be honest it sounded nice.

"Now, this wouldn't happen to be the same Alex that you're always talking about? Your best friend?" She asks, making Oliver chuckle a little before he nods.

"Yeah, it's the same one. Alex has been my best friend since he was born pretty much."

"And when did the two of you start dating? Obviously it wasn't since he was born." The crowd erupts into a fit of laughter before slowly quieting down. I didn't really see the humor in the statement so she only earned a small smile from me.

"No, it hasn't been that long... We dated on and off when I was six though, but of course that was back when we didn't know what the term boyfriend actually meant. We didn't officially start dating until I turned seventeen, which was two years ago." I spoke the first time, looking at Oliver for reassurance as I answered.

"What's the story behind that? How'd the two of you start dating?" She asks and both Oliver and I shared a look.

"Uh... That's kind of a cute story actually. It was Alex's birthday and I had just gotten news that someone wanted to sign our band to a record label. Naturally Alex was one of the first people to know. I showed up at his door with a bright grin on my face, I remember I couldn't stop smiling as I told him.... Anyways, after I finished telling him I had the overwhelming urge to just go on a drive. I took Alex with me and we drove to this small field just out of town where we lived... We were sitting on the hood of my car, looking up at the stars when Alex said the first thing to me since I had told him about the record deal..."

"I told him that he had to promise he would never forget me." I said quietly, remembering that moment as if it just happened yesterday.

"I told him that I couldn't even if I wanted to, I loved him too much... and then I kissed him and the rest is history." Oliver says, smiling softly at me as he finishes up the story. The rest of the interview went on without a hitch, the conversation stayed on our relationship and never went to anything else.

Everything was going to be okay.
